It is getting chaotic. After various rumors about the release date of the EF 200-400mm f/4L IS 1.4x, one said May 14th the other postponed everything to 2014, a new rumor surfaced and appears to confirm the announcement in May. Beside May 14th (i.e. tomorrow!), the 31st of May is also a possible candidate. In any case, the rumor says there will be a limited supply for the first weeks.

The built in extender is a good idea.
I would like to see it on some non-zoom telephoto primes, like a 100mm X2, a 200mm X2 and a 300mm X2. The basic focal length should be top quality with the extender offering an improvement over cropping the image.

who cares except 3% of all photographers?

    i mean it´s a 11000 euro lens.

i would be more excited about a 14-24mm or a new 50mm or new 17-40mm.

      I agree!
I feel it is somewhat redundant to put a built in extender on a zoom lens. Not to mention the run away cost. I think that a built in extender would add more functionality and value to a prime.

There’s no way they could get away with charging that much for ths lens. You could get Nikon’s 200-400 with 1.4x teleconverter plus a Nikon D4 body for that price. Even if you are a diehard Canon shooter, that would be a better option as you’d get another DSLR body.
