This redesigned EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Zoom Lens from Canon ups the ante for optical performance for a professional standard zoom lens. It has one Super UD lens element and two UD lens elements that minimize chromatic aberration in the periphery at wide-angle, as well as reducing color blurring around the edges of the subject. In addition, two types of aspherical lenses are combined to help reduce spherical aberration over the entire image area, as well as through the full zoom range. Optimized lens coatings help ensure exceptional color balance while minimizing ghosting.
A ring-type USM and high-speed CPU with optimized AF algorithms ensure silent, fast autofocusing. The lens is constructed with improved dust sealing and water resistance, while fluorine coatings on the front and rear lens reduce fingerprints and smearing. A circular 9-blade diaphragm gives beautiful, soft backgrounds. A zoom lock lever locks the zoom position at the wide end for safe transporting while attached to an EOS DSLR camera over the shoulder.

10 months ago |Sure this will give astounding! But lets face it…, the price is ridicules!! and this lens doesn’t even have IS!
Think modern Canon, the photography world is chancing quicker as you keep up with. By the way I’m a Canon shooter myself. Just think companies like Panasonic, Sony, Olympus and some other take a better approach at this moment in time.

10 months ago |Ronald..I am a Canon shooter too (5D3)…and I tend to agree with you. I am not impressed so far with many user comments regarding this lens…Sounds like it is better in image quality (but only sightly) and NOT in build quality…I need to read more to see if this is actually true..I am sure that now that the lens if becoming more available and there will be more reviews and input..but from what I have read so far the new lens is NOT deserving of a $1000 increase (which I think that the new 70-200mm 2.8 IS II was..as the improvement across the board was astounding).
My guess is that this lens will be a slower sell because of the price and that is will quickly drop in price after the initial introduction or at the very least there will be a rebate offered.
….and in line with what you are saying…I find myself reaching for my GX1 and OMD more often these days than not…for a lot of the reasons that you state.

Nothing wrong with most Canon/Nikon products these days. But some prices raise at least some thinking & questions. The other companies I mentions have some guts to different… or take risks to bring something ‘newer’ to photography. That doesn’t mean they got it right the first time. But a least they try. Who was all laughing when Olympus introduced a sensor dust removal system and live-view. Almost everybody/company. And look now…
Hello Jan Uwe, I’m a professional shooter & shoot at least 8 days in a row all the time for a newspaper in my area. When I’m ‘free’ I shoot concerts, festivals and sailing sports al lot of the time. So not actually a ‘no shooter’. And happy to say I read news, and surf on the internet in between…
