Canon EOS-M with built-in EVF coming the second half of 2013.

A faked EOS-M with builtin EVF via dpreview forum. Attention: not the real camera!!!
Canon is well known for hiding their intentions. Back when they launched the EOS-M they said that there is actually no need for a mirrorless camera to have an electronic viewfinder. A new source told us the truth: Back when the EOS-M was launched Canon simply had not the necessarily mature tech to offer an external viewfinder for the EOS-M. But Canon is right now developing a new EOS-M camera with built-in viewfinder. Design is a lot close to the current EOS-M but it has a EVF in the corner like the Fuji X-E1 and Sony NEX-6. Definitely no hybrid OVF/EVF, but a “classic” electronic EVF will be used. Unlike rumors posted elsewhere the camera is not hitting stores in Spring but much later (second half of the 2013).
In summary:
EOS-M with built-in EVF
Keeps the modern look design of the EOS-M. (no retro style)
Hit the stores in late 2013.

Still waiting for Canon’s full frame mirrorless.
Leica has shown us that it is possible. Sony has shown us that it is possible.
What’s the hold up Canon?

6 months ago |They’re waiting for Nikon to come to market with a version of Sony’s RX1 first. Canon is not the leader in technical innovation. They’re the ones who perfect it.

6 months ago |…if this is true…why does the OMD AF operate about 60x faster than the M?
…don’t get me wrong…I think this is a positve development…but still not a camera I want to own…but it will have appeal to the masses.

6 months ago |One has great auto focus
Other has larger sensor eith better dynami range, plus autofocusing adaptor for over 74 current manufactured lenses.
Take a guess which camera i would choose bobby boy?

6 months ago |Probably the Olmypus with it incredible IS, a plethora of small, fast quality glass, (did I mention SMALL?), incredible frame rate..all in a super quality construction “small” package.
When I think of mirrorless, I want SMALL, light, fun and fast….otherwse I am grabbing my 5D III Kit and going 4 the gusto. The two systems are so complimentary.
Different strokes 4 different folks.

6 months ago |I hope that Canon can make this camera more competitive from a standpoint of features and functions with other offerings in the mirrorless market. For me, to have a very small camera body, that needs an adapter to attach a lens meant for a different camera system holds no appeal. This is not a selling point for me, with Canon M, MFT etc….(I know it is for many)
These set-ups are often awkward, function slowly and can look hysterical. Compared to a dedicated system that takes advantage of new technologies to revolutionize the form, speed and capabilities of a camera they are downright silly. It all just kind of gets in the way of making a photograph….which was the point to begin with, after all.
