COSYSPEED introduces world’s first smartphone photography bags, the PHONESLINGER series

Phoneslinger

COSYSPEED, maker of some of the coolest camera bags for mirrorless shooters, started a crowd-funding campaign for their latest camera bags, the PHONESLINGER series. I own various COSYSPEED bags, the Streetomatic being my favorite. This is well made and sturdy gear.

Thomas from COSYSPEED says:

Smartphone Photography has come a long way and reached a pretty decent level of image quality. And everyone is doing it! So we thought it would be adequate to make some cool bags for smartphone photographers and videographers. And it seems that we are the only company in the world with dedicated bags for smartphone photographers. Our crowd-funding campaign for the PHONESLINGER series was launched to day on INDIEGOGO.

The new bags are:

PHONESLINGER Power

PHONESLINGER Prime
holds your Smartphone and up to 4 smartphone lenses like the popular Moment Lenses. Have your Phone and Mobile Lenses accessible within a second and with one hand

PHONESLINGER Outdoor
Is rugged and light weight and the safe place for your phone out in nature. Have your phone safe but always in reach within a second and with one hand

A complete set of prototypes will be on display on COSYSPEED’s stand at Photokina in Hall 5.1/Imaging Lab.

The Tokina Opera 50mm f/1.4 for FF DSLR will sell at $1100 (approximately)

Tokina Opera 50mm F/1.4

Nokishita reported the price in Japan for the upcoming Tokina Opera 50mm f/1.4 lens for full frame camera. The Opera 50mm f/1.4 price in Japan will be 126,900 Yen, which is around $1,100.

The Tokina Opera 50mm f/1.4 was announced at CP+. Shipping of the Tokina Opera 50mm f/1.4 is expected for late October 2018.

Tokina’s description of the Opera 50mm f/1.4:

With the debut of Opera 50mm F/1.4 FF we are launching a new series of next generation premium full-frame lenses for high-end DSLR cameras called “opera” series.

Opera series is designed to perfectly match recent high-spec full-frame DSLR cameras, which keep requiring high quality optics to be used with. In addition to originally high-valued Tokina AT-X series, this new opera series is positioned as top premium series of full-frame size lenses and will be further expanded with other lenses of related specifications and performance.

In modern society the word “opera” is commonly used to express general genres of stage art. In Italian it means work or work of art. As an omitted art genre definition opera comes from “opera musicale” that means a piece of music work. In Latin opera comes from “opus” and in contemporary language “magnum opus”, “opera magna” still has a meaning of “great literary, artistic or intellectual work”. We chose the name “opera” for a new premium full-frame DSLR lens series thinking of a lens that will help photographer in creating real “work of art”.

Interview With Canon Engineers About the Canon EOS R

Canon Eos R Firmware Update

Dave Etchells of Imaging Resource had the chance to talk to Canon engineers about the brand new Canon EOS R.

Some excerpts:

Does the Canon EOS R really have 5,655 AF points?

[…]what’s being referred to are the number of AF point positions you can choose from, when in single-point mode and using the rear-panel arrow keys. When you press one of the arrow keys, the box showing the single AF “point” moves a small step in the chosen direction. Adding up the number of steps in each direction, you’d likely come up with the claimed 5,655 points.

Does AF coverage change with EF-mount lenses?

Since EF-mount lenses used via the adapter are so much further from the sensor surface, it seems likely that they wouldn’t be able to support as large an AF area as native RF-mount ones. I asked, and it turns out this is true. It will vary some based on the specific lens design, but some EF-mount lenses won’t have quite as wide AF coverage as the native ones. Native RF-mount coverage is 100% vertically and 88% horizontally, but some EF-mount lenses will only have 80% horizontal coverage (again, depending on the specific lens design).

How does EOS R autofocus compare to cameras like the 5D Mark IV?

[…]relative AF performance depended on the subject; that the EOS R would win sometimes and the 5D IV or 1D X II other times. They didn’t elaborate on what subjects they thought each would be best at, but I thought it was significant that it wasn’t all one way, and that the EOS R in fact would win some AF matchups, even against some of Canon’s top SLRs.

The entire interview can be read at Imaging Resource.
