Canon press release:

The New Canon EOS C300 Mark II Camera And XC10 Camcorder Capture Short Films “Trick Shot” And “Battle Of The Ages” In Stunning 4K

Films Premiere for the First Time at Canon Theater During the 2015 NAB Show

MELVILLE, N.Y., April 13, 2015 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, is proud to announce the premiere of two short films “Trick Shot” and “Battle of the Ages” today during the 2015 NAB Show in Las Vegas, NV. Both films will screen daily in true 4K at the 2015 NAB Show in the Canon Theater at Booth #C4325.

Using the brand new Canon EOS C300 Mark II Digital Cinema Camera and the XC10 4K Digital Camcorder, the short films were shot in cinematic 4K (4096 x 2160) and recorded in-camera on SanDisk Extreme PRO® CFast™ 2.0 cards.

“Trick Shot,” directed by Evan Kaufmann with cinematography by Gale Tattersall (Grace and FrankieHouse M.D.), is a classic con movie with a twist. Reformed pool shark “Eight Ball” Bobby is forced to play one more crucial billiards game to save his son Devon, who got mixed up in the wrong crowd. Shot on location in Nevada, Tattersall utilized the EOS C300 Mark II camera to capture the menacing darkness of a seedy pool hall, the stark beauty of the barren desert, and the tense drama of a clever heist film.

“The new sensor in the Canon EOS C300 Mark II is a game changer,” said Tattersall. “The 15 stops of dynamic range and cinematic quality put this camera in the big leagues.”

Mounted with Canon’s new CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm T5.0-8.9 Ultra-Telephoto Zoom lens, the camera produced an incredible tracking shot of a speeding car from more than two miles away. Yet when the script called for aerial photography, the camera easily transitioned from sticks on the ground to propellers in the sky. Flying with a Canon EF 24mm 1.4L II USM lens on the Aerigon, a professional cinema drone from Intuitive Aerial Inc., the camera captured the vast landscape of Valley of Fire State Park.

A classic con movie with a twist, Trick Shot is a a film about a family of con artists who travel across the country to pay off their son’s gambling debt and get more than they bargain for.

Canon achieves four accolades at the 2015 TIPA Awards

United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, 9 April 2015 – Canon is pleased to announce it has been awarded four honours by the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) – one of the world’s leading photo imaging and press associations. Every year, the TIPA Awards commend the most outstanding imaging products launched in the past 12 months. In 2015, Canon has once again been recognised for the technical innovations across its diverse product portfolio. The following awards have been granted:

– Best DSLR Expert: Canon EOS 7D Mark II
– Best Expert DSLR Zoom Lens: Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM
-Best Professional DSLR Lens: Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L USM
-Best Easy Compact Camera: Canon IXUS 160, IXUS 165 and IXUS 170

The TIPA panel comprises of editors from 27 of the world’s leading photography and imaging magazines: members span 16 countries spread across five continents. The panel meets annually to discuss the latest imaging products, and considers a range of factors, from innovation to design and overall product quality, in order to select and acknowledge the very best products and technologies.

“We’re humbled once again to receive a number of awards from TIPA. Each year we strive to push boundaries, creating incredible and innovative products for the photographic community, and the awards from the TIPA panel highlight our ongoing achievements” said Steven Marshall, Product Marketing Director, Consumer Imaging, Canon Europe. “We want to inspire and invite everyone to take a look at the world around them and have fun with photography, whatever level. The honours across all product ranges, from our consumer and enthusiast models to our professional line, reflect our ongoing commitment to outstanding quality and innovation.”

In honouring Canon’s award-winning products, the TIPA judging panel offered the following citations:

Best DSLR Expert: Canon EOS 7D Mark II
With specs that appeal to photographers who know what a DSLR is capable of delivering, the 20.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor in the Canon EOS 7D Mark II resides within a weather- and dust-resistant magnesium alloy body along with dual DIGIC 6 processors. The camera features 10 frames-per-second shooting rate, a 65-point (all cross type) AF system, and a 100% field of view viewfinder. Exciting features include HDR and multi-exposure modes, intervalometer and bulb timer for long exposure capture. The camera has dual card slots for both SD-type and CF cards. To support Full HD video quality there is Dual Pixel CMOS AF and dedicated stereo microphone and built-in headphone jack ports.

Best Expert DSLR Zoom Lens: Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM
Designed for full frame but equally beneficial for APS-C DSLRs users who want to gain even more zoom range, the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM incorporates a 4-stop Image Stabilizer and a fast near-silent AF motor (USM). The lens is constructed of 21 elements in 16 groups, including Fluorite and Super UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) lens elements for high image quality across the frame and also features Canon’s Air Sphere Coating (ASC) for reduced ghosting and flares. A nine-bladed circular aperture delivers smooth and impressive bokeh. The rear focusing design, with a floating element, enhances AF speed and ensures uniformity in image quality at all focusing distances. Additionally the zoom operation includes a mechanism for adjusting zoom ring torque. The lens package includes a tripod mount collar.

Best Professional DSLR Lens: Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L USM
Canon users now have access to the widest angle of view yet achieved for a rectilinear full-frame DSLR zoom lens. With a minimum focusing distance of 11 inches (28cm), the Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L USM delivers minimally distorted images throughout its range. It is constructed of 16 elements in 11 groups with a three-group zoom system and rear focus. The new design incorporates four aspherical elements to minimize distortion from the centre to the frame edge and an optical array that provides straight lines with minimal curvature throughout the entire range. The lens also features one Super UD and one UD lens element to significantly reduce chromatic aberration and Canon’s SWC coating to reduce flare and ghosting. It is well sealed for dust and water resistance and allows for manual focusing overrides even when in AF mode.

Best Easy Compact Camera: Canon IXUS 160/165/170
Canon has gone against the tide that supposedly swept away the possibility of new and exciting entrants in this camera category, and has done so with compact and very affordable units that provide what cameraphones lack: long range optical zoom and stunning image quality. For example, the IXUS 170 is an exceptionally slim camera (only 22.6mm thick) with a very long range optical zoom: 12X (25-300mm equivalent). It has a 20MP sensor and Intelligent IS, Canon’s adaptive Optical Image Stabilizer that aids in capturing shake-free stills and 720p HD video. Users can rely on the Smart Auto Mode, which automatically chooses the best settings for the scene, or from a number of special effects modes. The IXUS 165 also comes with Intelligent IS, whilst both IXUS 165 and IXUS 160 house an 8x zoom and 20MP sensor.
