Photographer and gear reviewer Dustin Abbott posted his review about one of Sigma’s most exciting lenses, the Sigma 20mm f/1.4 DG HSM ART.

Abbott’s review comes with plenty of sample pictures, and many educated considerations about this lens (does it suit for astrophotography?). In the conclusion he writes:

The Sigma 20mm f/1.4 DG HSM ART is undoubtedly another excellent entry in the optically stellar ART series. Sigma continues to push the boundaries of what can be done with wide aperture lenses. Not only does this lens enter new territory in its maximum aperture value but manages to best all direct competitors in its resolution (particularly in the center). It also does this while undercutting its principle competitors in price by a fair margin […].  It provides crisp, detailed images with good color rendition, strong flare resistance, and a moderately low amount of distortion.

The Sigma 20mm f/1.4 costs less than you may think: it’s yours for $899, which is a bargain given the stellar performance of this lens. You may watch the 14 minutes video below, which tells you all about Abbott’s impression, or you may go for the written review.

Canon EOS 80D video review (and comparison with 70D, 7D Mk II, Nikon D5500, Sony a6300)

APS-C EOS 80d Canon Eos 90d

Tony Northrup on YouTube posted his review of the brand new Canon Canon EOS 80D. The 15 minutes review goes into all the new features the EOS 80D is packed with, and puts a look on how the EOS 80D it compares to the competition (Nikon D5500 and Sony a6300), as well as to Canon’s other APS-C offerings, namely the Canon EOS 70D and EOS 7D Mark II.

Here is another interesting video review of the Canon EOS 80D.

Canon EOS 80D Hands-On Field Test (video)

EOS 80D

The usually not very Canon-friendly folks at The Camera Store TV posted an 18 minutes hands-on review about the new Canon Canon EOS 80D. Do not expect these guys to be enthusiastic on the EOS 80D. Never the less, a critical video review that’s worth to be watched.

You may also be interested to know that the EOS 80D features a newly designed sensor, with a pretty amazing noise performance and greatly improved RAW dynamic range.

Canon EF 50mm F1.0L review (critiquing a legend)

Ef 50mm F1.0L

Edit: the linked article with the review has been removed. The reason is beyond my knowledge.

Photographer and Reviewer Dustin Abbott has taken three months to check and review the legendary Canon EF 50mm F1.0L by modern standards. He breaks down the performance of the lens and why it remains important despite being out of production since 16 years.

Mr. Abbott posted two videos. The 17 minutes video below is the review of the EF 50mm F1.0L, the 18 minutes video after the first video is a more detailed and extensive look at the optical performance and the bokeh quality from this rare and somewhat legendary lens.

The video below puts a detailed look on the EF 50mm F1.0L.

In the conclusion Mr. Abbott states:

Without being contradictory, it is easy to see why the Canon EF 50mm F1.0L never sold much but also easy to see why people are desperate to acquire the rare copy that shows up on the used market. The lens is far too inaccessible for the typical photographer and too optically flawed for most working professionals. The Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L has its own share of detractors, but in every way it is far more accessible than its venerable (and more extreme) ancestor. But it is the extreme nature of 50mm F1.0L that also makes it so desirable as a collector’s item. People are intrigued by extremes, and even the optical flaws of the lens will be desirable to some; a challenge to overcome.

The review comes with a huge set of sample pics. The Canon EF 50mm F1.0L is out of production but can still be found on eBay, and it’s not cheap.
