Canon EOS Rs Rumor: Possible But Unlikely Specification List Surfaces

Canon EOS Rs Rumor

Here is a new Canon EOS Rs rumor, and it comes with a specification list that’s almost too good to be true.

This specification list pretty much differs from a previous spec list coming from the same source:

  • 45mp (conflicting intel suggests also 40mp)
  • IBIS (In Body Image Stabilisation)
    • 5 stops with IBIS alone
    • 7-8 stops of correction when used with in-lens stabilization
  • 14fps / 20fps (conflicting intel suggests also 12fps / 20fps)
  • Scroll wheel added to the back
  • No touchbar
  • Liveview/Movie toggle like previous Canon EOS DSLRs
  • Larger capacity battery, but looks like the LP-E6
  • 8K@30fps RAW
  • 4K@120fps
  • 4K@60fps
  • Announcement ahead of CP+ next month

These are a hell of video specs, and the reason we have some doubts about this specification list. The same source also suggested this EOS R model might be named EOS R5, and not EOS Rs (which has always been a moniker invented by the rumor mills).

45MP are perfectly fine as sensor resolution, besides the fact that so far resolutions around 70-80MP have been rumored. Another thing is a bit weird, according to experience. If the announcement is set to happen before CP+ Show then we should see serious leaks and reliable specification lists very soon, or they should even already have leaked. It’s a month until CP+.

The Canon EOS Rs would be the first of three rumored new Canon EOS R bodies to get announced this year. There is the EOS Rm, a camera rumored to be even more inexpensive and entry-level than the EOS RP (but is this possible, given that the EOS RP currently sells for less than $1,000?) And then there is this possible, third Canon EOS R camera coming in 2020. We know as good as nothing about this one. Will this one be a sports camera? Or is this just the EOS R Mark II?

Any ideas about this Canon EOS Rs specification list?

Stay tuned for the next Canon EOS Rs rumor.

Canon Rumor: EOS R Camera With APS-C Sensor Mentioned Again

Canon Rumor Canon EOS Webcam Utility

While we are still skeptical about this Canon rumor, we are less than we were before Nikon announced the Z 50.

But then: Nikon doesn’t have an established mirrorless lineup with an APS-C sensor, Canon has the EOS M. So, does an EOS R model with a crop sensor make any sense for Canon? It might, if you consider that an APS-C EOS R model could indeed replace the Canon EOS 7D Mark II. And still we have doubts.

The source of the rumor seems to be pretty confident about such a camera. Its suggested an EOS R model with an APS-C sensor is in active development and might be released in 2021. Not earlier because Canon is set to first deliver more RF lenses. The source says lenses for the APS-C EOS R would be RF-S lenses.

And what about this year, any EOS R cameras coming? Yes, three of them are rumored. The first one, named EOS Rs by the rumor mills, should be announced pretty soon. The second one, named EOS Rm by the rumor mills, might get announced in May 2020. And there is what could be the EOS R Mark II, but we know nothing about this one.

Stay tuned for the next Canon rumor (all listed here).

What do you think, is a Canon EOS R body with an APS-C sensor a real thing?

Do you think Canon will release an EOS R model with APS-C sensor?

Canon Rumor: Not Two But Three New EOS R Cameras To Be Announced In 2020

Canon Rumor

After yesterday’s Canon rumor suggesting (or better: reaffirming) some announcement dates for two upcoming, new EOS R cameras, the same source now suggests there might be three new EOS R cameras.

Please note that the moniker we use here have been suggested by the rumor mills and are not official Canon denominations.

Let’s start with the high resolution EOS Rs, which we believe, and wrote, will be announced first, in February 2020. If the announcement is that close (before CP+) then we should soon see some serious leaks.

Next is the EOS Rm, a camera rumored to be even more inexpensive and entry-level than the EOS RP. But is this possible, given that the EOS RP currently sells for less than $1,000? Take this with a pinch of salt because we do not think it’s real. This camera might get announced in May 2020. But then: how can Canon make a full frame mirrorless camera that’s less expensive than the EOS RP?

Then there is a possible, third Canon EOS R camera coming in 2020. And we know as good as nothing about this one. Will this one be a sports camera? Or is this just the EOS R Mark II? Here too, don’t forget the pinch of salt. We have no timeframe for the announcement. it could in May 2020 instead of the EOS Rm but it might also happen later in 2020. It could also be that Canon is not going to make a Mark II version of their first full frame mirrorless camera and that “EOS R” was a one time moniker, though we are inclined to believe there will be a Mark II.

Finally, there is also an EOS-1D X equivalent EOS R camera we think Canon has up their sleeves. However, we do not think this EOS R camera will be released in 2020. It’s most likely a 2021 affair. This would allow Canon to first release more high-profile RF mount lenses.

As always, your opinion is welcome, so sound off in the comment section while you wait for the next Canon rumor.

Canon Rumor: EOS R Cameras Announcement In February And May 2020

Canon Rumor

We reported many times that Canon is set to announce two new EOS R models within the first half of 2020. Here is a new Canon rumor about these cams.

Once more these announcement dates get a confirmation. You can expect the high resolution EOS Rs to be announced in February 2020, and another yet unknown EOS R camera in May 2020. Please note the “Rs” is a moniker created by the rumor mills and not an official Canon denomination.

We still do not have reliable information about the specifications of the high resolution Canon EOS Rs. So far these specifications have been rumored for the EOS Rs:

  • 75mp full-frame CMOS
  • Sensor “focused on the dynamic range”
  • Frames per second “… Sounded similar to the EOS R”
  • DIGIC 9
  • Dual Card Slots
  • Joystick the same as the EOS-1D X Mark III
  • Larger and higher resolution EVF than the EOS R
  • Fully articulating LCD screen
  • Fully weather-sealed
  • Similar ergonomics as the EOS R (No touch bar)

We know even less about the second EOS R camera that will get released in 2020. It might be the Canon EOS R Mark II, but it could also be another kind of EOS R camera, though we do not think it will be the rumored pro-oriented EOS R camera.

Will IBIS come to a Canon camera anytime soon? We are pretty sure Canon is working on IBIS, given the remarkable collection of patent applications dealing with it and the fact that a Canon exec told the world about. And it’s very likely that the first Canon camera to feature it will be a mirrorless camera in the EOS R lineup.

Stay tuned for the next Canon rumor.

Venus Optics Set To Announce an “Argus f/0.95” Lens For DSLRs and MILCs

Argus F/0.95

Venus Optics will release a very very fast lens in 2020, a lens named “Argus” and with f/0.95.

That’s what Mirrorless Rumors is reporting. The Argus f/0.95 was talked about by Venus Optics during a presentation in China. The lens will be available for DSLR and mirrorless mounts.

The next intel we want to gather is focal length, and the price. Stay tuned.

Canon EOS R Rumor: Announcement Of Two Bodies In First Half 2020 Gets Another Mention

Canon Eos R Rumor

We already knew that Canon is going to announce two new EOS R bodies before Summer 2020. But it’s always good to have a confirmation through a new Canon EOS R rumor.

And that’s it: latest rumor from the web (re)confirms the rumor suggesting Canon will announced two EOS R cameras within the first half of 2020. One, the high resolution model dubbed EOS Rs by the rumor mills, is rumored to get announced soon, February being a candidate timeframe. The second EOS R camera that’s rumored to be announced in 2020 might be the EOS R Mark II.

Unfortunately we are still lacking reliable intel about the specifications for both rumored cameras. The only new thing we learned, according to the source, is that Canon will be “stepping it up a gear” with the next EOS R bodies.

As for the EOS Rs, the only specification list we have suggests that the sensor resolution we leaked back in April is still what we can expect. We were told the EOS Rs will feature 75MP (but 80MP have also been rumored). The EOS Rs might have these specifications:

  • 75mp full-frame CMOS
  • Sensor “focused on the dynamic range”
  • Frames per second “… Sounded similar to the EOS R”
  • DIGIC 9
  • Dual Card Slots
  • Joystick the same as the EOS-1D X Mark III
  • Larger and higher resolution EVF than the EOS R
  • Fully articulating LCD screen
  • Fully weather-sealed
  • Similar ergonomics as the EOS R (No touch bar)

It seems there are no doubts left that Canon will feature IBIS on future EOS R cameras, given the remarkable collection of patent applications dealing with it and the fact that a Canon exec told the world about. And it’s very likely that the first Canon camera to feature it will be mirrorless.

Say tuned for the next Canon EOS R rumor.
