Weird Rumor Suggests Canon EOS 90D Might Be Mirrorless With EF Mount

Ibis Canon Rumors Canon Full Frame Mirrorless Canon PowerShot G7 X Canon Eos 90d Coronavirus

Here is the next Canon EOS 90D rumor (all rumors).

As we reported, Canon is set to announce the Canon EOS 90D in August. The EOS 90D is rumored to feature IBIS, and a supposed specification list already surfaced. We also reported that the Canon EOS 90D might replace both the EOS 80D and EOS 7D Mark II

Now, the announcement date gets closer and this leads to all sort of misleadings and wishful thinking. The latest specification suggestion has it that the EOS 90D might be mirrorless:

  • Mirrorless APS-C camera body
  • 31.2mp APS-C sensor (previously 32MP)
  • 4K video with no crop (no mention of DPAF)
  • Full coverage of the sensor for AF
  • 10fps
  • Supports live eyeAF in 4k and Full HD Video modes
  • LP-6N battery
  • Supports clean video to HDMI out

The source also mentions the EOS 90D might have the EF mount. We think an APS-C mirrorless camera with EF mount is highly unlikely. So, we recommend you take this rumor with a huge grain of salt. And stay tuned, there is more to come soon.

Here is what we expect Canon to announce in the next months.

Canon EOS 90D To Be Announced In August 2019?

Canon Eos 80d

After the rumor suggesting Canon will feature IBIS (In Body Image Stabilisation) on the Canon EOS 90D, now we have a rumor about the announcement date.

The August announcement was already rumored. Some supposed specifications for the EOS 90D have also leaked. The news are that the EOS 90D (all rumors) announcement could go along with the announcement of other new Canon gear. As we reported, the EOS 90D is most likely the replacement for both the EOS 80D and EOS 7D Mark II.

According to the source, in August Canon might also announce the replacement for the EOS M5/M6.

Finally, some new lenses are also possible. Since Canon stated there would be no new EF lenses in 2019, you can speculate they will be either EF-M lenses or the already announced yet not released new RF lenses. These are the “holy f/2.8 trinity”: RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS, RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS and RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS. Then there is also the RF 85mm f/1.2L DS (DS = Defocus Smoothing“).

Stay tuned.

Canon EOS 90D To Feature IBIS (In Body Image Stabilisation)?

Eos 80d

Will the Canon EOS 90D have IBIS on board?

Perfectly on schedule after a row of IBIS related Canon patent applications, a rumor suggesting Canon might feature IBIS in future DSLRs surfaced. Indeed, there has also been a Canon patent application discussing IBIS in DSLRs.

The rumor suggests IBIS is “definitely” soon coming to “select” DSLRs”. The source suggests the upcoming Canon EOS 90D (all rumors), and later the EOS-1D X Mark III, could be the first two Canon DSLRs to have IBIS on board. There have been rumors the Nikon D6 will feature IBIS, so you can expect it on the EOS-1D X Mark III too. As we reported, the EOS 90D is most likely the replacement for both the EOS 80D and EOS 7D Mark II.

The lack of IBIS in Canon’s mirrorless and DSLR offering has always been cause for criticism from users. I guess Canon is the last Camera manufacturer without an offering featuring IBIS. However, for the time being we suggest you take this rumor with a grain of salt.

Stay tuned.

What’s Next From Canon? (EOS RX/RS, EOS 90D, new Rebel, Cinema Camera, EOS M, 1DX III

Eos 90d

What to expect next from Canon besides the Canon EOS 90D? Let’s sum it up what might happen in the next 3-4 months.

First and foremost, Canon will most likely announce the Canon EOS 90D (all rumors), the APS-C DSLR that will replace both the EOS 80D and EOS 7D Mark II (we reported). Some specifications for the EOS 90D surfaced.

Canon will also release a new Cinema camera. We think it will be the EOS C500 Mark II but the EOS C300 Mark III (rumored to feature 8K) may also be on Canon’s release radar.

Is a new Canon Rebel DSLR also due? Might be, though we have no reliable intel so far. The same can be said about the next EOS M model. We were expecting a replacement for the EOS M5/M6, but so far nothing appeared on the horizon. The EOS M system is not dead (as many wish/suggest), Sigma just announced they will port three primes to the EF-M mount.

There are two upcoming Canon EOS R cameras. One, which might be announced towards the end of 2019, is the long rumored high resolution EOS R. Some people suggested this camera might be the Canon EOS RS. The other new EOS R model that’s rumored is a pro-oriented, EOS-1D X equivalent full frame mirrorless camera. Canon itself said they might make such a camera. Canon EOS RX surfaced as name suggestion in various spots over the Internet

Finally, we can be reasonably sure that Canon will announced the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III before the Summer Olympics 2020.

Stay tuned…
