The Ax Smash Method – An alternative way to deal with DSLR errors

The camera getting destroyed is a Canon EOS 70D. I own a 70D, took it everywhere, from deserts to glaciers, I used it in the tropics under the rain, and in many more difficult situations. I am normally not very caring about my gear. It’s gear and is has to do the job. Well, I never, never, experienced an error on my trusty EOS 70D. Before being tempted to destory your EOS 70D, have a look what others make with this fantastic camera (see here too).

A picture of the destroyed EOS 70D was later posted on Instagram, with the caption: “movie recording has stopped automatically” – worst bug ever, the camera had to be destroyed“. Oh, dude, take it easy next time. And why destroy the lens too?

Canon GPS Receiver GP-E2 and Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E7 firmware update available

Canon released firmware updates for the GPS Receiver GP-E2 and the Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E7A.

Firmware version 2.0.0 (download here) for GPS Receiver GP-E2 incorporates the following fixes and improvements:

  1. Fixes a phenomenon in which, in rare cases, the signal acquisition indicator on the GPS Receiver GP-E2 displays “Slow blinking (Signal acquired)” even if a signal is not yet acquired.
  2. Fixes a phenomenon which new log files may not be saved correctly if the built-in memory of the GPS Receiver GP-E2 becomes full.
  3. Support for the EOS Rebel T6s/EOS 760D and EOS Rebel T6i/EOS 750D cameras has been added.
  4. Support for the EOS 5Ds and EOS 5Ds R cameras has been added.

Firmware version 1.2.0 (download here) for Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E7A incorporates the following improvement:

  • Support has been added for the EOS 5Ds / EOS 5Ds R.

Photography Blog posted another gallery of sample pictures shot with a Canon EOS 5DS. This time they used the Canon EF 70-200 f/4L IS lens. The pics were taken at a local bike race, at 8pm with overcast sky, having poor light conditions. High ISO settings were required.
