Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS III to be announced within a month? [CW3]

Canon EF 400mm F/2.8L IS III

The rumor mill has it that Canon might announce a new lens before Photokina 2018. The rumored lens is the Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS III.

No specifications are suggested, just that the Mark III version will “focus on weight reduction and updated coatings”. Along with the EF 400mm f/2.8L IS III, so the rumor, Canon might announce also another “big white lens”, for which no focal length has been rumored so far. At the time of writing we can not confirm the announcement of the EF 400mm f/2.8L IS III. The Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II was released in 2010, so a replacement may be a bit early on schedule.

With Photokina 2018 being a month away, we should soon see serious leaks, specifications, and possibly some images of the upcoming gear. However, we still have no reasonable hints about what Canon will announce. There are a lot of speculations, and obviously everybody is hoping for the highly anticipated Canon full frame mirrorless camera (all rumors). We have been told Canon will stage a mirrorless related event in the second week of September, others seem to disagree. We too got some conflicting intel later on and at the time being we can not confirm with high confidence that Canon will indeed hold an announcement during the second week of September 2018, and that it will be related to Canon’s full frame mirrorless camera.

Announcement wise, and on top of the probability, ranking you’ll find the EOS M5 Mark II, a 32-35mm f/1.4 or f/1.8 lens for the EOS M system, and we all hope to see a Canon full frame mirrorless camera (at least one). Some yet unknown lenses may also be announced.

We didn’t get any new intel about the EOS 90D/EOS 80D Mark II or the EOS 7D Mark III. An announcement in 2018 is still in the realm of possibilities but appears to become more unlikely as time goes by.

Stay tuned, there is more to come in the next weeks.

Nikon’s Latest Full Frame Mirrorless Camera Teaser is About Lenses

Nikon Full Frame Mirrorless

Nikon posted the fourth teaser for their upcoming full frame mirrorless camera, and this time it’s about lenses.

The teaser suggests Nikon will release new, fast lenses under the company’s “NOCT” moniker.

In less than a week, on August 23, Nikon will (most likely) announce two full frame mirrorless cameras, the Nikon Z6 (a high speed, low light model with a 24MP sensor), and the Nikon Z7 (a high-resolution model with 45MP). The teaser video below is most likely pointing to the Nikon Z-Noct-Nikkor 58mm f/0.95 lens, rumored to be announced after the two FF MILCs. The caption for the teaser video states

NIKKOR lenses have offered photographers ever more ways to express themselves. To pursue and control the essence of light is at the heart of this journey, from now into the next 100 years.

Specifications for Nikon’s full frame mirrorless cameras have already leaked.

EISA DSLR Camera 2018-2019: Canon EOS 6D Mark II
The Canon EOS 6D Mark II is a compact but powerful DSLR for the enthusiast photographer. The 26.2-megapixel full frame CMOS sensor and DIGIC 7 image processor work together to provide excellent image quality, even in low-light scenarios. The camera combines a fast and reliable 45-point autofocus system with Canon’s impressive Dual Pixel CMOS autofocus system that is used for live view and video shooting. The Vari-Angle touchscreen – a first for Canon’s full frame cameras – makes it easy to frame the subject and to operate the camera menu.

EISA Best Buy camera 2018-2019: Canon EOS M50
This small, light and affordable mirrorless camera delivers the same image quality as its larger siblings. Thanks to the 24.1 megapixel APS-C sensor and DIGIC 8 image processor, it can capture both high-quality still images and 4K video. The Vari-Angle touchscreen makes it easy to frame your subject from any angle – whether high, low, ‘selfie’ or vlog – with a simple tap-to-focus. The improved Dual Pixel CMOS AF allows for fast, accurate, and precise focusing across up to 88% of the imaging area in both photos and Full HD movies. With the built in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth you can easily transfer images to a mobile device and share them on social media.

EISA DSLR Prime Lens 2018-2019: Canon EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM
This unique lens combines built-in image stabilisation with a very large aperture. This combination makes it possible to take handheld pictures in very low-light situations. The lens is built for professional work, with weather sealing and fast and accurate autofocus. The sharpness is improved compared to previous 85mm lenses from Canon, while blurred backgrounds are rendered very attractively. It’s a perfect choice for portrait and wedding photographers who are shooting with high-resolution full frame DSLRs.

EISA photo innovation 2018-2019: Canon Speedlite 470EX-AI
This Speedlite flashgun makes the life of the photographer much easier by taking the guesswork out of bounced flash. The 470EX-AI automatically fires a series of pre-flashes to determine how light can be bounced from a ceiling or wall, and rotates the flash head into the correct position to provide soft and flattering light. Alternatively, the photographer can also manually position the flash head, and the unit will maintain this position even if the camera is rotated. With full E-TTL control, the flash will automatically fire at the right intensity to give perfectly exposed images.

Canon Rumors Canon Full Frame Mirrorless

Nokishita posted an updated list of unreleased Canon gear registered at certification authorities.

The big question is: when will Canon announce all this gear? Some stuff will be announced before Photokina 2018. Unfortunately, we still are not sure if Canon will announce anything mirrorless related before Photokina. We got a hint that Canon may stage a mirrorless related announcement on September 4 or 5, but during the last week we also got suggestions it will not happen.

Canon will announce new gear before end of 2018, that’s sure. On top of the probability ranking you’ll find the EOS M5 Mark II, a 32-35mm f/1.4 or f/1.8 lens for the EOS M system, possibly a Canon full frame mirrorless camera (at least one), and maybe some more gear (lenses?). Please note: at the time being it’s not sure if we will see Canon’s full frame mirrorless camera in 2018 or in Q1 2019.

We didn’t get any new intel about the EOS 90D/EOS 80D Mark II or the EOS 7D Mark III. An announcement in 2018 is still in the realm of possibilities but appears to become more unlikely as time goes by.

The Canon rumors mill, especially where related to anything mirrorless  has become a big mess during the last months. Contradicting rumors abound, and a lot of speculations are sold as rumors. All Canon full frame mirrorless rumors are listed here, all general Canon rumors are listed here.

Stay tuned!
