Canon EOS 5D Mark IV specification speculations [CW2]

Eos 5d Mark Iv

A rehash of anything that has been suggested in the past about the upcoming Canon EOS 5D Mark IV surfaced as spec list on the web.

Be aware that it is still early for reliable leaks about the EOS 5D Mark IV‘s specifications (expected to be announced before Photokina 2016). As plausible as the list below may seem, it is not a spec list coming from a known source, or a reliable one, though it seems plausible.

  • 24.2MP Sensor
  • 61 AF Points (41 crosstype)
  • DIGIC 7+ (Single)
  • 7fps
  • ISO 100-51,200 (expandable options)
  • 3.2″ touchscreen LCD
  • CFast/SD card slots
  • Wifi built-in
  • GPS built-in
  • BG-E20 battery grip
  • LP-E20 battery
  • Slight weight reduction

Take anything with a proper amount of salt, especially the sensor resolution and having both WiFi and GPS on board. I got different suggestions about the sensor resolution, and so far Canon did not implement both GPS and WiFi in their highly weather sealed bodies (but there is a recent patent that shows how it can be done). The sensor resolution that has been suggested by my sources is 28MP, but for the time being I can not confirm it.

Interesting to note that 4K is missing in the list above. I am pretty sure the EOS 5D Mark IV will feature 4K (anticipated by us back in July 2014). We got many hints about 4K on the EOS 5D Mark IV, as did others.

Stay tuned for more…

Canon reports steeper-than-expected fall in first-quarter operating profit (-39%)

Canon

Canon published the Q1 2016 financial results, and it doesn’t look good for the company.

Canon reports a 39% fall in operating profits, due to less demand for office equipment in emerging markets and slower global sales of compact digital cameras.

Still Live: Canon EOS 80D killer deal, bundle with PIXMA Pro-100 Printer an 64GB card – $849

eos 80d

This is a pretty great deal! Authorised Canon retailer BuyDig on eBay (98.7% positive ratings) has the Canon EOS 80D bundled with PIXMA Pro-100 photo printer, photo paper, and a 64GB memory card on sale at $849. Compare at $1,199 for the EOS 80D alone, without printer etc

This works because BuyDig is an authorised Canon retailer, and hence you can claim $350 mail-in rebate (instructions). If you are comfortable with MIRs then this is a killer deal!

Canon patent for 50-300mm F4.5-5.6 Diffractive Optics lens for APS-C sensors

Canon patent

Canon patent for a 50-300mm F4.5-5.6 lens with diffractive optical elements. The optic formula described in the patent appears to refer to APS-C sensor (not full-frame). Hence, the lens may come either for EF-S or EF-M mount. I guess this would be the first APC-S oriented lens with diffractive optics (anyone?).
