Japanese director Yosh Enatsu shots with Canon EOS C300 Mark II (and uses auto focus)

Famous Japanese director Yosh Enatsu posted footage shot with the Canon EOS C300 Mark II. Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS Auto Focus technology and manual focus assist modes are used and well documented. The footage was shot in 4K 30p with Canon Log 2.

The interesting video for the pros is the “making of” below, where the use of Dual Pixel CMOS AF and manual focus assist modes in the footage is shown.

You may wonder why I stress Dual Pixel CMOS AF and manual focus assist so much. It’s common opinion among professionals that manual focus is the way to go, and that autofocus is the choice of amateurs. What Yosh Enatsu is showing us here, is that Canon’s Dual Pixel AF technology is a game changer for professional shooters. Dual Pixel AF is featured also on the Canon EOS 70D and EOS 7D Mark II.

Yosh Enatsu was the first director to post footage shot with Sony’s F55 three years ago.

Is the Canon EOS M3 coming to the USA? [CW2]

EOS M3

We (thanks) and others got word that Canon may introduce the EOS M3 to the US market.

I do not think this will happen. It happens rarely that big companies change their global marketing strategies after the introduction of a product. Still, the reasons for not selling the M3 on the US market are hidden to me. This has probably have to do with the fact that mirrorless system sales are struggling in the States, and with the huge marketing flop the EOS M was. Btw, the first EOS M was available in the USA.

If you live in the USA you can still get the EOS M3 without having to rely on dubious eBay sellers. DigitalRev sells the EOS M3 and ships internationally.

Samyang/Rokinon set to announce new cine prime lenses (XEEN 24mm, 50mm, 85mm T1.5)

xeen

Samyang/Rokinon is about to launch a new line-up of cine prime lenses under the brand name XEEN. We got word about this thanks to our friends at DicaHub.

XEEN 24mm, 50mm, and 85mm T1.5 prime lenses are expected to be announced by Samyang on August 10 (also be sold under the Rokinon XEEN name). The lenses will fit on Canon EF and other mounts.

The XEEN lenses will be well beyond Samyang/Rokinon’s usual price tags: each of the lenses is expected to have a $2,500 price tag. It’s Samyang’s attempt to compete with the likes of Zeiss, Canon, and Schneider, so I guess the price is adequate.

So far we have only one image of the 24mm lens.

Sigma 12-24mm lens coming (Art and Contemporary versions)? [CW3]

Sigma 24-35mm F/2

Is Sigma working on a new 12-24mm lens? Latest rumors suggest they are.

It appears the company is working on a new lens, a 12-24mm wide angle lens. This lens is said to be released in two versions, one “Art” and the other “Contemporary”. This is not the first time Sigma releases two versions of a lens. They did the same with the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG, released as “Sport” and “Contemporary” version. For the time being it is not clear if it will be for full-frame or APS-C sensors. My guess is for FF.

Sigma has a 12-24mm lens in their line-up, the Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 DG HSM, released in 2011. I think this rumor is solid. Stay tuned.
