Photography Blog reviewed the Sigma 105mm F1.4 DG HSM lens, the “bokeh master”. Sigma has landed another winner with this lens

From the conclusion:

Weighing in at well over 1.5kg and sporting a huge 105mm front element, the Sigma 105mm F1.4 DG HSM is a monster of a lens, but thankfully it delivers in the image quality department. Sigma have gone all out to make this the ultimate lens for bokeh lovers, and you certainly won’t be disappointed if that description fits you.

The Sigma 105mm F1.4 DG HSM is a tack-sharp lens, both in the centre and at the edges of the frame, with little evidence of chromatic aberrations and virtually no distortion. Vignetting at wide-open apertures is the only real optical issue of note, something that similarly fast lenses also suffer from, although stopping down to f/4 solves this problem altogether.

As with other recent Sigma lenses that we’ve reviewed, the build quality of the 105mm F1.4 DG HSM is fantastic, with the brass lens mount and sober all-black design adding to the high-quality feel. Read the review at Photography Blog.

Sigma Adds Three New Lenses to Its Cine Lens Lineup

Brand new introductions to the FF High Speed Prime Line – 28mm T1.5 FF, 40mm T1.5 FF and 105mm T1.5 FF – will be debuted at IBC2018

September 11, 2018 – Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce the development of three new Sigma Cine lenses in the FF High Speed Prime Line: 28mm T1.5 FF, 40mm T1.5 FF and 105mm T1.5 FF. With these additions, the FF High Speed Prime Line now includes ten lenses covering 14mm to 135mm and T1.5 to T2, giving cinematographers even more options to empower their artistic expression and take their cinematic vision to the next level.

Available for test-shooting at the 2018 IBC Show in Amsterdam from September 14-18, 2018, attendees are welcome to visit the Sigma booth 12.D64 to get hands-on with the new cine lenses.

New Models in the Sigma Cine FF High Speed Prime Line
All the lenses in the FF High Speed Prime Line, including the brand new 28mm T1.5 FF, 40mm T1.5 FF and 105mm T1.5 FF, are compatible with full-frame image sensors and optimized for ultra-high-resolution 6K-8K shooting.

All three lenses come in PL, EF and E mounts with lens support foot and cap included. Sigma 105mm f/1.4 DG HSM ART Review (extreme optical instrument, D. Abbott)

There are many gear reviewers (and review sites) you can find on the web. Very few take it seriously and make their reviews “real world” related and yet highly professional. One of them is Dustin Abbott, who just posted his review of the Sigma 105mm f/1.4 DG HSM ART lens, a pretty interesting lens in our opinion. It’s dubbed the “bokeh master”. Guess why.

In the conclusion he writes:

Sigma has once again successfully created an extreme optical instrument. Tackling a project like a 105mm lens with a huge maximum aperture of f/1.4 is not for the faint of heart, and yet I see evidence of growing maturation as Sigma manages to get more and more right. There’s no question that the extreme size and weight of the 105 ART will be off-putting to many, but those with a little extra arm strength will be rewarded with an exceptional portrait lens. The Sigma 105mm f/1.4 DG HSM ART is not a mainstream lens. It isn’t a general-purpose lens; it is a tool for specialists. A lens like the 105 ART can seriously set your work apart from the crowd, providing images unique to those that a standard 70-200mm f/2.8 lens can produce. And for some photographers, that is worth the extra effort. […] The autofocus works well, the images look fantastic, and the build level is high.

D. Abbott’s reviews always come with a lot of sample photos, and all sorts of analysis. For those in a hurry the 23 minutes Sigma 105mm f/1.4 DG HSM ART video review below should do fine.
