Canon Patent: RF 200mm f/2 IS Lens For EOS R System

Canon Patent

And here we have another Canon patent published today.

Canon patent application 2023099385 (Japan, published 7/13/2023) discusses optical formulas for a RF 200mm f/2 IS lens.

From the patent literature:

To provide an optical system having a plurality of focusing groups and anti-vibration groups that can be made compact and lightweight in addition to excellent optical performance.

Description of the Related Art

In a telephoto lens equipped with a plurality of focusing groups that move during focusing from infinity to the closest object and a vibration reduction group for correcting image blur, in addition to good optical performance, There is a demand for miniaturization and weight reduction of the entire lens system.
The present invention provides an optical system having a plurality of focusing groups and anti-vibration groups, which can be reduced in size and weight in addition to excellent optical performance.

Example 1

  • Focal length: 195.00
  • F-value: 2.05
  • Half angle of view: 6.33
  • Image height: 21.64
  • Overall length: 184.49
  • Back focus: 22.35

Canon Patent: 200mm f/2, 300mm f/2.8 And 500mm f/4 (RF mount?)

Canon Patent

Canon patent application for some telephoto zooms, for the EOS R system I guess.

Canon patent application 2020196094 (Japan) discusses optical formulas for three telephoto zoom lenses:

  • 200mm f/2
  • 300mm f/2.8
  • 500mm f/4

As a shooting optical system having a long focal length, a so-called telephoto type shooting optical system is known. The telephoto type photographic optical system is used, for example, in a single focus super-telephoto lens.

In the photographing optical system described in Patent Document 1, the second lens group having a negative refractive power is moved during focusing. Here, the second lens group is arranged at a position relatively close to the first lens group, and it cannot be said that the focus group can be sufficiently reduced in size and weight.

An object of the present invention is to provide an optical system that is lightweight and has chromatic aberration and other aberrations satisfactorily corrected, and an image pickup apparatus having the same.

Canon Patent: 135mm f/2 1:2 Macro And 200mm f/2.4 1:2 Macro Lenses

Canon Patent

And yet another Canon patent application: 135mm f/2 1:2 Macro And 200mm f/2.4 1:2 Macro Lenses.

Canon patent application 2022-22595 (Japan) discusses optical formulas for two macro lenses: 135mm f/2 1:2 M.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical system capable of expanding a close range in a small size while suppressing the number of focus groups, and an image pickup apparatus having the same.

If the floating focusing method is used to increase the close-up magnification, the number of lenses in each group increases, and it is difficult to drive the focus group at high speed. In the lenses of Patent Document 1 and Patent Document 2, when the number of lenses in the focus group is reduced in order to realize high-speed drive, sufficient aberration performance cannot be obtained because the configuration of each group is not appropriate.

An object of the present invention is to provide an optical system capable of expanding a close range in a small size while suppressing the number of focus groups, and an image pickup apparatus having the same.

Example 1

  • Focal length: 133.0
  • F value: 2.05
  • Half angle of view: 9.24
  • Image height: 21.64
  • Shooting magnification: -0.5

Example 3

  • Focal length: 200.0
  • F value: 2.40
  • Half angle of view: 6.18
  • Image height: 21.64
  • Shooting magnification: -0.5

Example 4

  • Focal length: 199.9
  • F value: 2.80
  • Half angle of view: 6.18
  • Image height: 21.64
  • Shooting magnification: -1.00

Canon EF 200mm f/2L IS Review – A Great Lens But Not Recommended

Canon 200mm F/2L IS Review

Few of us can afford a $5,699 lens. Here is Canon EF 200mm f/2L IS review with a surprising verdict.

EF 200mm f/2L IS at a glance:

  • EF-Mount Lens/Full-Frame Format
  • Aperture Range: f/2 to f/32
  • Fluorite & Ultra-Low Dispersion Elements
  • Super Spectra Coating
  • Ring-Type Ultrasonic Motor AF System
  • Optical Image Stabilizer
  • Weather-Sealed Construction
  • Detachable, Rotatable Tripod Collar
  • Rounded 8-Blade Diaphragm

Manny Ortiz posted his Canon EF 200mm f/2L IS review. While he states it is a great lens (it is), there are also some drawbacks according to Manny: price, huge size and working distance. See the review in the video below.

B&H Photo has the Canon EF 200mm f/2L IS at $5,699.

Canon EF 200mm f/2L IS Review – A Legendary Lens That Might Get Discontinued

EF 200mm F/2L IS Review

Here is a Canon EF 200mm f/2L IS review. The Canon EF 200mm f/2L IS is a remarkable lens but now it seems Canon might discontinue it soon.

At a glance:

  • EF-Mount Lens/Full-Frame Format
  • Aperture Range: f/2 to f/32
  • Fluorite & Ultra-Low Dispersion Elements
  • Super Spectra Coating
  • Ring-Type Ultrasonic Motor AF System
  • Optical Image Stabilizer
  • Weather-Sealed Construction
  • Detachable, Rotatable Tripod Collar
  • Rounded 8-Blade Diaphragm

Christopher Frost posted his Canon EF 200mm f/2L IS review. This classic Canon telephoto lens was introduced in 2008, and now it seems that Canon is set to discontinue it in favor of an RF mount version. At least that’s what recent rumors suggests, and indeed the Canon EF 200mm f/2L IS shows up as discontinued at B&H Photo. You can still find it at Amazon.
