The After Photokina Canon Rumors Round-Up (7DII, 70D, 700D and the high res cam)

After all the expectations and the heat of Photokina, it’s time to go back to business as usual. That means rumors, and there is a bunch of new ones to discuss.

NL has been told that you can expect to see a high megapixel DSLR that will showcased at the PhotoPlus exhibition in NY, from October 24th to 27th. Seems like the price and the performance of Nikon’s D800 is somewhat worrying Canon. The rumor suggests the following specs for the high res DSLR (which may be named EOS 3D, and may be available later next year):

  • 46.1MP
  • 5fps
  • 16bit
  • ISO: 100-12800

This is not the first time a rumor about a Canon high res DSLR shows up. We reported about time ago.

There is more, still coming from NL. And this one is no less than about a new sensor design, supposed to appear during next year. It comes bigger: this new sensor design is said to show up not just in the high res camera we discussed above, but also in the EOS 7D Mark II, EOS 70D and EOS 700D. Delays in the development of this sensors may have pushed the massive firmware upgrade for the EOS 7D.

Take rumors with a grain of salt, as usual. But be also aware that they happen to be true. When we reported the rumor about an entry level DSLR by Canon, it seemed to be rather implausible to lot of people. And then, last week, Canon announced the EOS 6D. What I want to say: a high megapixel DSLR by Canon is plausible, not just because Nikon has one. It is plausible because lots of professionals need high resolution sensors.

[Rumor] EOS 7D Mark II Specifications Moving Upmarket (?)

As I said in my previous post: May is the Canon Rumor Month so far. :-) I already reported that the next iteration of the 7D will probably be announced in September at Photokina 2012. And there were also some basic specifications for the EOS 7D Mark II: Dual Digic 5 CPU, 100% viewfinder and the outstanding auto-focus system of the EOS 5D Mark III. Now there are some new rumor tidbits about the EOS 7D Mark II:

[...] the 7D replacement is going to move upmarket in specifications. In particular, the build quality, sealing, AF and frame rates are going to be pushed much more to ‘pro’ levels. Test bodies are apparently being wildly tested in sports and wildlife areas. However, specs are still not set, suggesting a camera that’s still some time off. The downside would be that it would come in at a slightly higher price point than the 7D, making room for greater 650D/70D differentiation.

Well, this is really just a rumor, but to me it would make sense for Canon to push the 7D Mark II more to pro levels. The EOS 7D is already a rocking camera, and lots of pro photographers appreciate the advanced features and a price tag that’s lower than Canon full-frame cameras. It has an APS-C sensor, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Lots of sport photographers appreciate the 1.6 crop factor, since the zoom range of their lenses is improved. To push the next high level Canon APS-C camera to a pro level, with more advanced features, could be a good move by Canon. What do you think about a 7D Mark II with the weather sealing and the AF of the shoplink 2431]EOS 5D Mark III[/shoplink], and maybe with an improved 18MP sensor

See the latest EOS 7D pictures uploaded to Flickr clicking here. And when a new iteration of a camera model is around the corner, it is always a good idea to check if there are deals for the “old” model (the EOS 7D in this case). That’s why I provide the continuously updated live-ticker below. Only sellers that have a top rating and satisfy other quality issues are listed.

[Rumor] New 70D and 7D Mark II Specs Surfaced

canonrumors breaks the news again with updated specifications of the upcoming APS-C cameras EOS 7D Mark II and EOS 70D. Both are expected to be announced for Photokina 2012. If these cameras will be announced in September, then the specifications should be already defined. Looks like the next xxD and xD iterations will both have an 18MP sensor, though it is not clear if it will be an updated sensor. Could this possibly be the definitive specs of the next two APS-C Canon cams…?

EOS 70D

    • Digic 5
    • 18mp
    • 100% viewfinder with grid lines like 7D
    • 19 AF Points from 7D
    • Continuous AF in LiveView & Video Recording
    • September Announcement

7D Mark II

    • Dual Digic 5
    • 100% viewfinder
    • 61 Point AF from 5D Mark III
    • Announced after 70D
