Canon’s CE-SAT-2B Experimental Satellite Successfully Launched Into Space

CE-SAT-2B

Canon’s CE-SAT-2B Earth-imaging satellite has been launched into space without issues.

The Canon CE-SAT-IIB is a microsatellite equipped with middle-size telescope and an ultra-high sensitivity camera to take night images of the Earth. This time three types of cameras are mounted on the satellite, one of them being a mirrorless camera (EOS M100) and another one a compact camera for wide angle images (PowerShot G9X Mark II).

Spaceflight Now reports:

The largest spacecraft on Wednesday’s mission was CE-SAT-2B, an Earth observation satellite for Canon Electronics of Japan.

The 78-pound (35.5-kilogram) spacecraft is Canon’s third microsatellite to launch, following an experimental Earth-imaging station that launched in 2017 on an Indian PSLV rocket.

A follow-on satellite named CE-SAT 1B launched in July on a previous Rocket Lab mission, but it was destroyed when the Electron rocket failed before reaching orbit.

According to Canon, CE-SAT-2B carries three types of cameras to be demonstrated in orbit.

“With the newly developed super high sensitivity camera, CE-SAT-2B is capable of observing the Earth during night time,” Canon said in a press release. “The satellite is equipped with three types of cameras including Canon’s mirrorless camera and compact digital camera.

“CE-SAT-2B will go through a two-year demonstration experiment for forthcoming production of cassegrain reflectors as series,” Canon said.

The folks at ePhotozine posted their full Canon Powershot G9 X Mark II review. From the conclusion:

The Canon Powershot G9 X Mark II is compact and stylish, and one of the smallest cameras available that delivers high image quality, thanks to the use of a 1inch BSI CMOS sensor. Having to use the 3inch touch-screen to change controls may not be to everyone’s liking, but if you’re looking for something compact that can deliver great image quality, then it’s worth the compromise. The use of a 3x optical zoom lens helps keep the camera small, whilst providing a wide-angle equivalent to 28mm. For those that want more zoom, or wider lens, then you would need to look at the larger G7 X Mark II.

The PowerShot G9 X Mark II is a little powerhouse that gets a lot of positive reviews. Definitely an interesting compact camera.

Photography Blog posted their complete Canon PowerShot G9 X Mark II review. They gave the PowerShot G9 X Mark II a score of 4.5 out of 5.

In the conclusion they write:

Although owners of the original Canon PowerShot G9 X aren’t going to be too excited by the improvements on offer, the new Mark II does represent a minor step forward for Canon’s most pocket-friendly compact camera, particularly in its operational speed.

Continuous shooting rates, auto-focusing speed and general all-round performance have been boosted by the impressive Digic 7 processor, while image quality at high ISOs is subsequently slightly better too. Improved image stabilisation and slightly longer battery life are also desirable features, while the new always-on Bluetooth connection is a welcome addition.

Canon PowerShot G9 X Mark II coming within a month? [CW4]

Powershoit G9 X

Nokishita Camera got a rumor suggesting the Canon PowerShot G9 X Mark II might be announced soon, likely within a month.

There will be two color options for the PowerShot G9 X Mark II, black and silver. The rumor is supported by the fact that two SKUs (Stock Keeping Unit, inventory management terminology) leaked:

SKU: 1717C004 (black), 1718C004 (silver) – The number behind C varies depending on the country of sale.

No specifications so far, just that the PowerShot G9 X Mark II will have model number PC2323, and that it will have WiFi. I expect first images of the G9 X Mark II to leak soon.

Stay tuned…
