Canon EOS R5 Overheating Soap Opera – A User Made Issue?

Canon Eos R5 Overheating

Let’s go back to one of the most hilarious attacks on a new Canon camera I’ve ever seen. The infamous Canon EOS R5 overheating issue.

If you follow us on Canon Watch you likely know that we always thought (and said) that it wasn’t a real issue, and that Canon had disclosed very transparently the limits for 4K and 8K video on the EOS R5. Needless to say that it never was an issue for those taking stills. At the end of the day it depends on how much you push the R5. The whole overheating hysteria was started by the usual suspects, a bunch of Canon hating video guys who always attack Canon’s new cameras.

Deaf Director posted his Canon EOS R5 review, and talks about the EOS R5 overheating issue. In his own words: “A real world look at the Canon R5’s overheating issues after 8 months of continuous use, and tips for how you can work around it.”

More Canon EOS R5 review stuff is listed here (many reviews), for EOS R6 review stuff see here. The EOS R5 is highly regarded as a stills camera. In particular, the EOS R5 autofocus system seems to be huge leap forwards. The official Canon EOS R5 user guide and manual are available for download: EOS R5, and for the EOS R6 too.

New Inexpensive Canon EOS R Models Coming After The EOS R3?

Image Sensor Canon Eos R

A new rumor surfaced, it’s about RF mount cameras, new inexpensive models. And again the EOS R with APS-C.

A new low rated rumor suggests Canon will focus on entry-level EOS R models after the EOS R3 begins shipping, and if there are no supply chain issues (these are now always mentioned). A replacement for the EOS RP is said to be in the pipeline, this would be the new lowest priced EOS R model in the lineup.

Again, an EOS R with APS-C imaging sensor is rumored too. We still don’t fully buy it but for sure it makes for some good discussions. The only new bit this time is that it might not be an EOS 7D Mark II replacement. So far this has always been the dominant suggestion. Don’t get us wrong about the skepticism. t would be a nice addition to the lineup. We just don’t see it happen.

Stay tuned.

More Talk About The New Canon EOS R3 Specifications

Canon Eos R3 Sensor

Canon revealed a new (small) set of Canon EOS R3 specifications. Let’s see what they are about with the help of renowned camera reviewer.

Gordon Laing posted his impression about the newly revealed Canon EOS R3 specifications. Even better: he had the unique chance to have close look at the EOS R3. However, he was not allowed to turn the camera on or have a turned on camera in his hands. So most likely the EOS R3 was at least a preproduction model if not a prototype. Still, seeing the EOS R3 in person is still a good thing. In the video below he shares his impression.

New bits about the Canon EOS R3 came yesterday directly from Canon. We now know more about the specifications of the EOS R3. Here is what we learned yesterday from Canon:

  • Autofocus working down to -7.0 EV
  • Image stabilisation in lens + In Body Image Stabilisation deliver up to 8 EV
  • Head and eye detection have been improved
  • Autofocus detects eye, head and body
  • Autofous recognizes and tracks cars and motorcycles
