Dan..did you see this review? Roger seems VERY credible.
I am torn up about all of this ....I sold my 24-105 f/4L IS Canon 3 months ago to buy the new Canon 24-70mm II, anticipating the original availabilty date.
Now who knows when there will be a lens. July? ...maybe. I am definitely going to wait for the II to come out and get reviewed. Like Roger says, having the Tamron, which performs BETTER than the current Canon 24-70mm AND has IS is a game changer and makes the new Canon not so desirable at a $2300 price with no IS. The II has got to be spectacularly sharp and fast focusing to justify the price tag or it just won't be worth the money.
I hate having to be patient!!!!! Especially since I have no walk-around, general purpose zoom right now. LOL!
I am betting the II is going to be impressive especially with rumor of Canon coming out with a big MB full-frame to compete with the Canon D800. This new lens will HAVE to hit the ball out of the field~

I am dying for this lens to be great. I'm really want a 2.8 walk around zoom with IS. I can't believe with the promotion of video from these cameras Canon & Nikon have nothing like this for full frame cameras. This is the recipe for the #1 walk around lens: f/2.8, stabilized, lightweight, small, well built, and some weather sealing. I love my f/2.8 70-200 IS II but it is HEAVY and large. Now for some reviews to make sure it is as good as the recipe dictates.
