Some new tidbits about the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV emerged. Nokishita Camera reports that the EOS 5D Mark IV will be released in Japan on September 8th. This fits with a rumor I got suggesting the EOS 5D Mark IV will start shipping in the US before September 14th.

The EF 24-105mm F4L IS II USM and EF 16-35mm F2.8L III USM lenses are scheduled to be released late October and mid October, respectively.

The EOS 5D Mark IV will start shipping in the mid of September 2016. Launch price should be €3,799 in Europe and $3,499 in the USA.

We know the price for the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM ($1,099) and EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM ($2,199) lenses. The EF 24-105mm will most likely start to ship with the EOS 5D Mark IV (it’s a new kit option), while the EF 16-35mm may be seen a bit later, probably in October.

Canon is set to make a big announcement tomorrow, August 25, 2016. The following gear (and new EOS 7D Mark II kits) will be announced to the world:

  • Thomas E.

What time and where is the announcement?

    thanks in advance,

    • Rick

      usually 1AM EST .. I think it’s 8am Amsterdam time usually

      • Thomas E.

        Thank you.

Cool. So about 2pm local time in Japan, and midnight here in Texas. It is roughly what I expected.

So then, I wonder when pre-orders will open up.

        • canonwatch

I do not know Amazon but B&H and Adorama will take pre-orders the day of the announcement. Amazon too, most likely. hth

    • Rick

preorders probably almost immediately considering by the sounds of it, it’s already landed here, things will move quite quickly for the camera.

BH will have their preview almost out at the same time, and I imagine adorama and bh will have preorders as well. Amazon not sure.

  • Arnold

    i wait for reviews. pre-ordering .. why?

only if you really need a camera urgent pre-ordering makes sense.

    • Thomas E.

The other forum that I read has a lot of really black and white opinions on this matter.
I find the rules rather simplistic, and kinda thoughtless to be blunt.

The price of the camera is not going to drop more than $200(US) for the first 12 months. It is certainly going to be better than the 5Diii, so the only question is, is the extra $1000-$1200 worth the delta in the features.

      And well, yeah.

As far as reviews, what are you expecting, all of a sudden Canon to change their UI or ergonomics, not bloody likely.

Other than the known specs, what would cause you not to buy it?

The only spec that I find disappointing is shutter rate of 7FPS, and frankly, I get buy with my 7D, so I should be able to get buy with the 5Div. I don’t have the money for a 1DXii.

I want FF, touchscreen and DPAF, antiflicker ….

So my choice is 5Div and 1DXii.

Other consumer goods differ, TVs and such, yeah, Canon is pretty known.

      • Arnold

well im a burned child when it comes to issues.
so i don´t like to be the guinea pig for expensive products.
sure canon has a good reputation but nevertheless.

alos i am pretty happy with my 5D MK3 and the 5D MK4 must offer me a lot of features i WANT to spend the money. 4K gives me nothing, 7 FPS is a bit lackluster. and don´t need a better AF.

        i am still not sure if i want a 5Ds or if i could live with the 5D MK4… or if i even wait for a 5Ds MK2. :)

a 5Ds with better DR and noise performance would be a no brainer for me.
but the current 5Ds is not really enough to satisfy my different needs.

        • Thomas E.

Yup, definitely an element of risk. And I will be buying from Amazon, so if the camera really does suck, I will push for a refund.

I am moving from a 7D, so for me, very much different set of rules. I looked at a refurb 6D and maybe a used 5Diii over the last 6 months. But the effort to buy and then sell was more than I wanted to tackle.

For me, it would appear the 5Div will be almost the perfect mix for me. Between landscapes and kids in sports being the 2 primary uses for the camera.

I want to do more night photography, and many of the facilities my kids compete in have really poor lighting. So I really want the ISO performance of the FF. Frankly I would have been happier with 25MP and 8FPS, but oh well.

It is all good. And one thing for sure, I suspect you will have some tough choices when you go to your next camera. Canon, Nikon, Sony and so on seem to be coming out with some great products.

  • Wade Marks

It has begun. The press announcement is already leaked. Now another few more hours for the official announcement. I’m sure there will be all sorts of videos from Canon Explorers of Light made available, as well as some first look videos from the usual suspects like DP Review, The Camera Store, Digital Rev, etc.

  • Wade Marks

As another aside, can’t wait to see examples of this new Dual Pixel Raw manipulation in action. No doubt we will see this in some of the announcement materials made available by Canon.

  • Guys – what do you think the specs on the Mark 5 will be?
