Has the Canon EOS 7D Mark II reached End of Life, replacement on the horizon?

Is the replacement for the EOS 7D Mark II coming soon?

In the last weeks we got some hints that the Canon EOS 7D Mark II is reaching its end of life, i.e. it may soon be discontinued.

Mails in my inbox, coming from major, authorised US retailers, with headlines like “Want a Canon EOS 7D Mark II? Get it while you can!” or “grab it!” may be a hint that the glorious EOS 7D Mark II is indeed about to be discontinued. Moreover, we got word from readers that smaller retailers in Europe appear to clear stock of the EOS 7D Mark II.

Does this mean the Canon EOS 7D Mark III will be announced in 2018? It may. We have always been told that Canon would announce the EOS 7D Mark III in 2018, with a first batch of rumors stating it would happen before Summer 2018, and then some other rumors suggesting the EOS 7D Mark III may be announced towards Q4 2018.

Specification-wise we still know very little about the successor of the highly popular EOS 7D Mark II. Please note that there are two specification lists making the rounds on the web. One which originates from us, another which does not. Although this specification list was attributed to us, it didn’t come from us.

The bits we got over the last months:

  • newly developed 28MP sensor, said to introduce a new Canon APS-C sensor generation (we leaked this first)
  • more video-oriented
  • some sort of 4K video (though no details, we leaked this first)
  • tiltable touch-screen
  • new generation of Dual Pixel AF
  • more upscale than the EOS 7D Mark II
  • richer feature set compared to the 7D Mark II
  • same introductory price as the EOS 7D Mark II

All Canon EOS 7D Mark III rumors are listed here.
