Canon EOS 7D Mark III pushed later into 2018? Tell us what you think

Eos 7d Mark Iii

We were fearing such a tip. Now it’s here.

We anticipated that Canon might announce the EOS 7D Mark III before Summer 2018. We got this from a good source. However, another source we worked with in the past tipped us that the EOS 7D Mark III might be a late 2018 affair, possibly slipping into 2019.

Specification-wise we still know very little about the successor of the highly popular EOS 7D Mark II (price & specs). Please note that there are two specification lists making the rounds on the web. One which originates from us, another which does not. Although this specification list was attributed to us, it has nothing to do with us.

The bits we got over the last months:

  • newly developed 28MP sensor, said to introduce a new Canon APS-C sensor generation (we leaked this first)
  • more video-oriented
  • some sort of 4K video (though no details, we leaked this first)
  • tiltable touch-screen
  • new generation of Dual Pixel AF
  • more upscale than the EOS 7D Mark II
  • richer feature set compared to the 7D Mark II
  • same introductory price as the EOS 7D Mark II

No big surprises here. The list above has a lot of obvious stuff (tiltable screen, richer feature set etc) and/or stuff we hear rumored for any major Canon DSLR iteration. I just hope it’s true the EOS 7D Mark III will have the same introductory price as its predecessor. Also, 4K video isn’t a real surprise: that the EOS 7D Mark III will have 4K is just common sense. I guess not even Canon could afford to not feature 4K on their next APS-C flagship.

No one so far has any reliable specifications for the EOS 7D Mark III (all rumors). If the suggested announcement timeframe before Summer 2018 is to be believed, we will soon start to see leaked specifications, and when the announcement gets closer also some pictures of the EOS 7D Mark III.

If the previous rumor is not reliable (i.e. no announcement before Summer 2018), all you’ll see will be a lot of fake rumors and the first serious stuff not before September or October 2018. Also note, that Canon has become very secretive in the last years and reliable rumors leak during the very last weeks before an announcement, and almost entirely come from Japanese sites. Something, certain people do not want you to know.

Stay tuned.

Another mention of Canon EOS 7D Mark III announcement before Summer 2018

Eos 7d Mark Iii

We got another hint that Canon may announce the Canon EOS 7D Mark III before Summer 2018.

We were previously tipped for the same announcement timeframe, but with the added bit that the EOS 7D Mark III would be ready for NAB 2018. It was pointed out that NAB 2018 is oriented to the video folks and hence might not be the best stage for Canon to display their new APS-C flagship. Not all wrong, indeed.

Specification-wise we still know very little about the successor of the highly popular EOS 7D Mark II (price & specs). Please note that there are two specification lists making the rounds on the web. One which originates from us, another which does not. Although this specification list was attributed to us, it did not originate from Canon Watch.

We got some bits over the last months concerning the specs:

  • newly developed 28MP sensor, said to introduce a new Canon APS-C sensor generation
  • more video-oriented
  • some sort of 4K video
  • tiltable touch-screen
  • new generation of Dual Pixel AF
  • more upscale than the EOS 7D Mark II
  • richer feature set compared to the 7D Mark II
  • same introductory price as the EOS 7D Mark II

No big surprises here. As you can see, the list above contains a lot of obvious stuff (tiltable screen, richer feature set etc) and/or stuff we get for any major Canon DSLR iteration. I just hope it’s true the EOS 7D Mark III will have the same introductory price as its predecessor. Hints about the sensor resolution and 4K video were leaked first here on CW. No real surprise here too: that the EOS 7D Mark III will have 4K is just common senses. I guess not even Canon can afford to not feature 4K on their next APS-C flagship.

I think it’s fair to say that no one so far has got any reliable specifications for the EOS 7D Mark III (all rumors). However, if the suggested announcement timeframe is to be believed, we will soon start to see leaked specifications, and when the announcement gets closer also some pictures of the EOS 7D Mark III.

Stay tuned.

Tony & Chelsea Northrup shared their predictions for cameras that will or might be announced in 2018.

Among other stuff, he makes some speculations on how Canon’s full-frame mirrorless camera might be shaped. These are the cameras discussed in the video: Canon EOS 5DS R Mark II, Canon EOS 7D Mark III, Canon EOS 90D, Canon EOS M3, Nikon D650, Nikon D850A, Nikon M700, Sony a5200, Sony a7 III, Sony a7S III, Fujifilm X-H1, Pentax K-1 II, Panasonic GH5-S, Olympus E-M5 Mk III.

Canon EOS 7D Mark III announcement before Summer 2018, shipment from July/August [CW4]

Eos 7d Mark Iii

Eventually, a rumor from a source we know and trust.

The Canon EOS 7D Mark III will most likely be announced before Summer 2018. Shipment should be ready for July or August 2018 at most. An announcement before Summer 2018 makes sense: in April 2018 there is NAB, which would be a pretty good stage for Canon to display their new APS-C flagship. I rate the suggested announcement date CW4.

We still know very little about the Canon EOS 7D Mark III. While some specs flocked in here at Canon Watch, it’s still too early to consider them reliable.

Specification-wise we have this list, based on what we have been told so far, with some new bits (please note: I rate the specifications CW2)

  • New sensor technology and resolution around 28MP (we reported first)
  • 4K video (though no details, we reported first)
  • C-Log
  • More dynamic range than 7D2
  • Better ISO performance than 7D2
  • Tilt-able display with touch interface
  • New generation of Dual Pixel AF
  • More video oriented than 7D2
  • Higher feature set compared to 7D2
  • Same introductory price as 7D2

Some considerations: we can expect some of the specs above simply because we are talking about a new Canon camera. I mean, “more dynamic range”, “better ISO performance”, “tilt-able display” etc are just what to expect from the EOS 7D Mark III. Also “new sensor technology” isn’t really something that gets us exited: we heard this almost for every new Canon DSLR. That said, it must also be said that if there is one Canon DSLR for which it could be true that Canon is introducing a new sensor tech, it’s the company’s flagship, the upcoming EOS 7D Mark III. The EOS 7D Mark II played an important role in Canon’s marketing and product strategy. So will do the EOS 7D Mark III.

However, take all this with a grain of salt. While I am pretty confident about the announcement date, I consider the specifications to be not very reliable at this point. It’s too early for reliable specifications but some of the feature listed above are at least plausible. As usual, feel free to sound off in the comment section.

Canon EOS 7D Mark III set to be announced in March 2018?

canon rumorscanon rumors

Latest rumor about the Canon EOS 7D Mark III has it that a March 2018 announcement is set for Canon’s next top APS-C DSLR.

A March 2018 announcement, though a bit early imo, is plausible. In April 2018 there is NAB show, which would be a nice stage to display the EOS 7D Mark III.

Moreover, the EOS 7D Mark III is said to feature 4K video (which we leaked first back in September). C-Log might also be on board.

Finally, what about sensor resolution? A few month ago we got word it ,may be a sensor with around 28MP resolution. The new rumor quotes a “first time sensor technology in a Canon DSLR”., which sound very much like a buzz word to me, and is something we hear very often when new Canon DSLRs are rumored. Each new Canon DSLR generation has in some way a new sensor technology.

What do you think, will we see the EOS 7D Mark III in March 2018?

Canon EOS 7D Mark III to feature 28MP sensor? (and more specs) [CW2]

canon rumorscanon eos 7d mark iii

A few weeks ago we were tipped about the EOS 7D Mark III. We have now a new rumor we got from a new source.

The rumor suggests that the EOS 7D Mark III will

  • feature a newly developed 28MP sensor
  • be in general more video-oriented
  • have 4K video
  • have a tiltable touch-screen
  • be more upscale than the EOS 7D Mark II
  • have a richer feature set compared to the 7D Mark II
  • introduce a new Canon APS-C image sensor generation
  • have the same introductory price as the EOS 7D Mark II

Still nothing neither particularly exciting nor really surprising (it’s still too early). The most interesting point is the one stating the EOS 7D Mark III will “introduce a new Canon APS-C sensor generation”, and that it will have 28MP (previously we were tipped with 30MP).

If this rumor is reliable, then we may think that all upcoming Canon APS-C cameras will have new sensor technology with 28MP resolution. Sound plausible at least. The EOS 7D Mark II has a 20MP sensor.

The EOS 7D Mark III might be announced in Summer 2018, though we do not have any reliable information so far.

Please take this with a grain of salt, sound off in the comment section, and stay tuned.
