Steve Huff posted his review of the new Canon EOS M100 (specifications, and price in your country), Canon’s latest and most entry-level mirrorless camera.

From his conclusion:

If you are starting out and want a small mirrorless, check it out.

If you want an upgrade from your phone, this will do it without killing your bank acct.

If you want a small “cute” camera that can fit in a bag, purse, or big pocket then the M100 should be on your list

If you want a great travel camera for video or photo without spending huge money on a serious camera with more features, the M100 should be looked at.

If you want to get into VLOGGING without spending a ton up from I would recommend the Canon M6 as it has a mic input but even the M100 can do for you in the beginning. The video AF is very quick and snappy. IQ is nice and color is typical Canon. Which is good.

So for beginners, those who want to upgrade from a phone, anyone getting into vlogging, those who travel and want small or anyone who just wants a fun point and shoot style IC camera. Read the review…

Why photographer Armando Ferreira switched from Sony to Canon

Contrary to what most most Sony fan sites want you to believe, there are many photographers who switch from Sony to Canon, or who switch to Sony and deeply regret it.

Photographer Armando Ferreira explains why he made the switch from using Sony cameras like the Sony A7RII and also the Sony A7SII to the Canon 5D Mark IV.

Because Canon gear works as advised, maybe…?

Canon EF 85mm f/1.4L IS review (fantastic choice, Photography Blog)

Photography Blog reviewed the new Canon EF 85mm f/1.4L IS lens (specifications, and price in your country). And again, we have a very positive review for this lens.

From their conclusion:

The Canon EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM is a fantastic choice for professionals and enthusiasts looking for a new 85mm lens to add to their arsenal. It is much, much better than the admittedly much cheaper 85mm f/1.8, and even adds some extra functionality when compared with the more expensive f/1.2 lens – particularly optical image stabilisation.

There’s arguably very few occasions when you absolutely need f/1.2 over f/1.4, so if you do a lot of shooting handheld – weddings, reportage and so on – then it probably makes more sense to go for the lens with OIS available (and it helps that it’s cheaper too).

Sharpness is excellent throughout the range, helped along by the fact that optical image stabilisation helps keep things nice and sharp even when showing at relatively slow speeds. The bokeh produced by the lens is lovely and smooth, making it ideal both for portraiture and for still life subjects. As it has such a wide aperture, it’s also a good lens to use in low light. The Canon EF 85mm f/1.4L IS lens, likely the most exciting Canon lens of 2017, is now in stock and ready to ship almost everywhere in the US. Photography Blog posted their full review of the brand new Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III (specifications, and price in your country), Canon’s first PowerShot with an APS-C sensor and Dual Pixel AF.

From their conclusion:

Canon must have read our review of the G1 X Mark II, because all of the things that we felt were missing – the exposure compensation dial, vari-angle LCD screen and optical viewfinder – have all made a welcome return in the Mark III. We also like the fact that the Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III is weather-proof and can be powered via a USB compatible battery pack, instantly making it more appealing for frequent travellers, while the combination of front and rear control dials and the single lens control ring make it a snip to quickly set the main camera parameters. We’ve always been fans of Canon’s user interface on its DSLRs, and also now on the PowerShot G1 X Mark III.

In summary, the new Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III can be summed up in one word – premium. It’s a premium compact camera that offers premium image quality and handling, albeit with a premium price tag to match. Read the review…

I agree, asking $1,299 is a bit too much for what otherwise is a very cool and powerful compact camera. Let’s hope the price gets down in the next months (after the holidays?).
