Sigma 14-24mm F2.8 ART lens review (Photography Blog)

Photography Blog reviewed the new Sigma 14-24mm F2.8 ART lens.

Excerpts from the conclusion:

The 14-24mm F2.8 DG HSM Art is a surprising, but very welcome, addition to Sigma’s ever growing Art range of premium lenses, offering a faster aperture of f/2.8 at the expense of 2mm in focal length when compared to the very similar Sigma 12-24mm F4 DG HSM Art lens, whilst being cheaper than it’s slightly older sibling (at least in the US anyway) and additionally offering much better weather-sealing.

Image quality is excellent. Chromatic aberrations are very well controlled, bokeh is surprisingly good despite the ultra-wide-angle nature of the lens, barrel distortion is impressively well controlled, and the Super Multi-Layer coating successfully prevents contrast loss attributable to flare.

[…]  the Sigma 14-24mm F2.8 DG HSM Art’s build quality is once again reassuringly excellent, although it’s also one of the heaviest wide-angle zooms that we’ve ever tested. Auto-focusing is quiet and quick […] Read the review…

Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Art Lens Review (ePHOTOzine)

Sigma 24-70mm F/2.8

Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG HSM ART at a glance:

  • EF-Mount Lens/Full-Frame Format
  • Aperture Range: f/2.8 to f/22
  • Three SLD and Four Aspherical Elements
  • Super Multi-Layer Coating
  • Hyper Sonic AF Motor, Manual Override
  • Optical Stabilizer
  • Rounded 9-Blade Diaphragm
  • TSC Material, Brass Bayonet Mount
  • Compatible with Sigma USB Dock

Another review for a highly interesting lens, made by Sigma. It’s the new Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Art. The Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 is gathering a lot of attention, giving a great level of performance for the bucks.

There is little not to like of the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 ART lens. The reviewer at ePHOTOzine praises well controlled chromatic abberration and distortions, the sharpness and the smooth bokeh. From the conclusion:

This is a very attractive proposition for full frame users. A reasonable cost, a sound general performance, gorgeous bokeh and the potential for portrait shooting, low distortion, in fact, a variety of positive aspects that make for a quality end result. It’s a pity the weather resistance isn’t a bit stronger and the weaker performance at 70mm will not suit everyone, but even this may well delight others as the portrait and perhaps flower study potential is very real. Overall, recommended. Read the review…

I do not own the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8. I just played along with it for a day and I have to say my impression has been very good. At $1,299 it’s also sensibly less expensive than Canon’s counterpart.

This is another exciting lens made by Sigma, though with a price of $1,599 it isn’t for anyone budget.

The Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM gives you a lot for less (money), says LensRentals

The Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM was one of the most anticipated lenses as of late. Can this lens, covering a popular full-frame focal range, beat the offerings of Canon and Nikon?

According to LensRentals’ review, it appears Sigma build another winner, another lens that many people will purchase instead of other offerings. Not only the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM has a significantly lower price ($1,300 vs $1,750 of the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 II), but it also has image stabilisation (the Canon has not). Add to this the excellent buid quality and you have a what is another great SIgma lens. However, the reviewer points put that both the Canon and Nikon offering in this focal range are sharper.

In the conclusion, the reviewer writes:

[…] the Sigma 24-70mm Art Series does a lot of things great. Keeping the form factor small, while adding the functionality of stabilization is impressive in its own right, and the price point is incredible when compared to what it’s up against. No doubt, if this is the first pro-grade 24-70mm lens you’ve used, you’ll be really impressed with the quality. For those who aren’t in a rush to update their 24-70mm lens, it might be best to wait and see what Tamron has in their newly announced Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2.
