Tony Northrup appears to have changed his mind on the Canon EOS 6D Mark II, a camera that got a lot of undeserved bad press.

Says T. Northrup:

The Canon 6D Mark II […] really is the best vlogging camera for YouTubers who might need to film themselves at times. Canon’s Dual Pixel Autofocus (DPAF) simply works better than any of the competitors. The only camera that even comes close are Sony’s latest round of full-frame e-mount cameras, like the Sony a7 III. However, those cameras lack a selfie screen, and when they do focus during video, it isn’t smooth and cinematic. Besides the reliable face autofocus when recording, I’ve come to appreciate being able to use fast full-frame lenses, like the Canon EF 24mm f/1.4 […], to blur the background. The 6D Mk II also has audio levels on the screen while you’re recording (as long as you have the audio levels set manually), which the APS-C Canon 77D lacks.

We never had any doubt that the EOS 6D Mark II was an excellent camera.

Roger Cicala of Lens Rentals posted MTF charts and other lab analysis data of the Sigma 14-24mm f2.8 Art lens.

In the conclusion he writes:

I said at the beginning that I expected this lens to be at least as good as the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 and better than the Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8. I think it’s pretty apparent that while they are all within hair splitting distance of each other at 14mm, the Sigma is the best at 24mm. Optically, this one is worth the money and the best overall 14-24mm zoom. There are lots of other things that go into choosing a lens, but at these very wide angles, things like autofocus speed are not big points.

That being said, if you’re buying a 14mm lens to be a 14mm prime (and some of you are), then all three of these do very well. Honestly, though, for a little more money you should consider the Sigma 14mm f/1.8 Art if that’s the case. If you’re thinking of matching a 14-24-70mm f/2.8 to collect the whole focal length set, then the Sigma is the best optical choice.

Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II review (well crafted photographic tool, ePhotozine)

Canon EF 70-200mm F/4L IS II

ePhotozine reviewed the new Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II lens.

The praise the excellent sharpness, very low CA and distortion, ergonomics, image stabilisation, and the build quality. It seems Canon made another winner with the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II.

From the conclusion:

A well crafted photographic tool that does its job flawlessly is always a pleasure to use, and this new lens can be fairly described as just that. Fair enough, we lose a little of the ability to throw backgrounds out of focus by sacrificing the usual f/2.8 aperture, but we gain portability, a lower cost and there is really very little sacrifice in terms of narrow depth of field. The f/4 70-200mm lenses, in general, look an attractive proposition and the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II USM is a particularly good example. Read the review…
