Photography Blog posted their exhaustive Canon RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS review. There is also a set of sample pictures. From their conclusion:

The new RF 100-400mm F5.6-8 IS USM is the best super-telephoto lens for most Canon full-frame mirrorless shooters, delivering satisfyingly sharp results and being compact and lightweight enough to carry around all day, and it’s also something of a bargain to boot.

The main rival to this lens is the RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1L IS USM, which at an eye-watering £2899.99 / $2699.99 will be well out of the price range of most people.

For everyone except professional users who will use the 100-500mm day in, day out, at just £699 / $649 the new RF 100-400mm makes a lot more sense from a financial point of view.

Thankfully its not just the price tag that’s appealing – it also delivers the goods in most other departments, from image quality to focusing speed, from build quality to feature-set.

  • Aperture Range: f/2.8 to f/22
  • One Aspherical Element
  • Super Spectra Coating
  • STM Stepping AF Motor
  • Customizable Control Ring

Photography Blog posted their Canon RF 16mm f/2.8 STM review. They gave a 4.5/5 and “Highly Recommended” rating. From their conclusion:

[…] the Canon RF 16mm F2.8 STM is a very cheap and very cheerful ultra-wide-angle prime lens that delivers sharp images in the centre, fast and reliable auto-focusing, usefully close shooting distance, and surprisingly good build quality, all housed inside a tiny, super-lightweight design.

It delivers excellent sharpness at the centre of the frame throughout most of its aperture range, even performing very well when shooting wide-open at f/2.8. It’s a different story at the edges of the image, though, which are much softer, with best results obtained from f/5.6-11.

Photography Blog posted their exhaustive Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS review. They seem to be rather fond of the lens. They gave the lens a “highly recommended” and a 4.5/5 rating. From their conclusion:

The Canon RF 100mm F2.8L Macro IS USM is a superb macro lens boasting class-leading magnification, outstanding sharpness, impeccable build quality and a unique Spherical Aberration Control ring.

It delivers outstanding sharpness at both the centre and edges of the frame throughout most of its aperture range, even performing brilliantly when shooting wide-open at f/2.8.

There’s some vignetting which requires you to stop down by at least 2 f-stops to prevent it completely, but there’s little evidence of chromatic aberrations. Distortion is very well controlled even when shooting in the RAW format when the camera body doesn’t apply any automatic corrections.

More coverage of this very interesting lens is listed here.
