New 5D Mark III round-up: high ISO, hands-on, and more stuff

Engadget has a pre-production 5D Mark III, and while we wait for the full review they have posted some sample pictures shot with high ISO settings. They conclude:

As expected, the camera offered excellent performance at all of the native settings — as you can see from the image above, there’s some noise noticeable when viewing an image at full size, though considering the camera’s top resolution of 22.3 megapixels, we hardly see ISO 25,600 being an issue

For a true pixel-peeping exercise nothing fits better than this post on dcdv.zol.com (Google translated). Comparison with the 5D Mark II is done using various sets of crops. digitalcamerainfo started a work in progress review (click here to read, they started with a pre-production model and will finish tech specs on the production one). Lots of sample pictures. Next, I have two hands-on videos for you. whatdigitalcamera got its hands on the 5D Mark III (at the Canon stand at the Focus On Imaging show) and shows an overview about features and specifications.

New Zeiss teaser for the upcoming Distagon T* 2,8/15 super wide angle lens

Zeiss posted a new teaser of the awaited (and most probably to be a) Distagon T 2.8 15mm ZF.2/ZE lens on its blog. The new information we have: the lens hood is integrated and has a 95 mm filter thread. On Zeiss’ Facebook fan page you can read the following:

Here’s the next close-up of the newest member of our SLR family of lenses. The lens shade with 95mm filter thread is integrated into the design. This new super wide-angle lens from Carl Zeiss will be available from May 2012.

We still have to wait…

If you register on their Facebook page you can get the latest news (and pics) about the the upcoming super wide lens. Since they write that this lens is «at the top of the wish list of our community» I hope it will be a 15mm f/2.8 lens. Just to make us all happy. :-)

And, yeah, the lens will be available with a Canon mount too.

 

Maintenance notice

Dear Readers,

this was a weekend spent in maintenance and tweaking of the site. While most of the work was targeted to things that are going on behind the scenes (for instance: CanonWatch is now optimized for all major smart phones), I also introduced some new functionalities, like the box on the right column where you can register and login.
