Canon Eos R7 Review Canon Firmware Updates

Canon released a batch of firmware updates, here they are. I linked Canon Japan because they are available there first.

EOS R6 Mark II firmware ver. 1. 4. 0

  • [Number of shots] for [Interval timer] can now be set up to 9999.
  • [FEM] has been added to [Strobe Custom Function Settings]. Also, [ON/ETTL→M] has been added to [Button Customization]. When using a strobe without a display panel, you can now use FEM (FE memory) from the camera side.
  • [Protect after transfer] has been added to [FTP transfer settings]. As a result, images transferred via FTP can now be automatically protected. You can also determine whether the image has been transferred via FTP.

The following bugs have been fixed.

  • Corrected a rare phenomenon where the camera took a long time to start up, such as when returning from auto power off.
  • Enhanced security during FTPS connection.
  • Fixed a phenomenon that could occur only under certain conditions, where images would not be displayed properly on the viewfinder or monitor, and camera operations would become inoperable (Error 70 may be displayed).
  • Fixed a phenomenon where the in-body image stabilization unit would not be initialized and error 20 would be displayed if the camera was started while shaking.
  • Corrected a phenomenon where error 70 may occur when shooting in A+ mode or AI Focus AF.
  • Fixed an issue where the card access lamp would blink and the camera would no longer accept operations when shooting a small subject.
  • Corrected an issue where the shutter would continue to release when the shutter button and another button were pressed at the same time under certain settings.

Dustin Abbott posted his full and exhaustive Canon EOS R6 Mark II review. A review that doesn’t let a question unanswered. From his conclusion:

In conclusion, the Canon EOS R6 MKII is a great improvement on its predecessor. I liked the R6, but going back to 20MP felt like a serious step back. The R6 MKII is improved in a variety of ways and has a great new sensor. I wouldn’t have minded seeing that resolution point moving up nearer to 30MP, but that’s not what happened. In most other ways, however, the R6 MKII’s sensor is very competitive with competing cameras on the market and even bests them in areas like High ISO performance and color fidelity.

The focus system is largely borrowed from the EOS R3, which means that it is among Canon’s best, and this can serve as a pretty great sports camera without breaking the bank.  The buffer depth isn’t as robust as the dedicated sports models, but it’s deep enough for many situations, and there are some easy workarounds (like using CRAW) that can help raise those limits.

When my biggest gripe is the position of the power switch you know that things are pretty good.  The Canon EOS R6 MKII is a great camera that is destined to be very popular and makes me anticipate what Canon does in the next generation of my beloved EOS R5 […] Read the review at Dustin Abbott’s…

Canon EOS R6 Mark II Review (a camera that impresses every time you use it)

DPReview posted their full Canon EOS R6 Mark II review. They gave it a Gold Award and a 91/100 score. From their conclusion:

The feature that really sets it apart from its contemporaries is its ability to shoot at up to 40fps and to pre-buffer bursts, to help you capture the key moment. Its rolling shutter means these modes aren’t ideal for capturing very fast movement, but it’s good enough to be genuinely useful. It doesn’t suddenly make it a mini EOS R3, but it further expands the types of photography the R6 II can accommodate.

Quite apart from the specs and capabilities, the EOS R6 II is simply a very nice camera to use. Its menus are long, but its grip is comfortable, its controls well placed, and a great deal of consideration has clearly been given to how many control points it needs. It feels like a well-honed tool, refined by people who’ve spent a lot of time using cameras.

[…]

Overall, though, it’s a camera that impresses every time you use it and, up against some of the best cameras you can buy, that counts for a lot.
