Talking About Entry-Level Full Frame DSLRs Price Tags (hint: Nikon’s D600 not as cheap as expected, $2800?)

While we are waiting to know more about Canon’s entry-level full frame DSLR (EOS 6D) it is good to learn that Nikon’s entry-level FF DSLR, the D600, will not be as cheap as expected. The image above was sent to me. It shows prices for the D600 and some lenses. I suppose the first entry refers to a D600 body only option. You can see that the D600’s price is 218,000 Yen, which roughly corresponds to €2170/$2800! So, by no mean the low price ($1500) that was so much touted over the Internet. However, I am simply converting currencies here. The reported price is for Japan. Nikon could easily decide to give another price tag to the D600, especially if you consider that the Nikon D800 costs around $3000.

If this will be the D600’s price, then this may be a bad news. Such a price tag will not force Canon to align the price of the EOS 6D. In other words, if Nikon’s D600 would cost $1500, then Canon would be under pressure to sell its own entry-level FF DSLR at a similar, competitive price.

Honestly it would make very little sense to have a $3K D800 and $2800 D600.

guy.. use your brain.. the D800 cost 2800$… so do you think a entry level will sell for the same price?

you relly believe this because of some stupid list?

    again.. use your brain….

  • maybe some of the dreamers may change the high hopes – maybe the D600 is just a lower megapixel-Pro-Body – not the entry-VF-Body you wish.. maybe maybe maybe..

  • Mike

jan uwe don’t you think that’s a bit harsh?

It’s always hard to compare prices between world regions as they can’t simply be currency converted but I think this list can give us an approximate price!

The D800 costs 298,000 Yen on Nikon’s Japan store. When you compare this to the US price it’s converted more less 100 to 1. Therefor one may assume the D600 will cost around $2,200 and maybe one hundred less in Euros. The camera is basically supposed to hit the last pricepoint of the D700 which seems sensible and realistic to me – unlike the promised $1,499…

Mike, jan is a troll. Don’t let him bother you.

ah the usual jobless bob …. spending 24 hours on websites again?

        • Bob B.

          • Digitalrev

haha a canon site can only shot on Nikon =) what a crap thing, go and buy sony if canon is crap!

        • Brüno

Don’t bother about jan uwe.. he is a German and from the past, we all know how “Krauts” really are… He is the best example for this thesis..

Hope the 6D is good price. 5D III is too expensive for me, even I want it so much. I guess Canon’s dilemma would be how to make 6D more comparable with D800. Cause it’s already $2,800, then 6D should be cheaper than that. Even if it goes like $ 2,50, some people say “I’ll buy a better one with $ 300 more.So I guess 6D should maybe better be 2K?

      Oops.

i say 1999$ for the D600…. build seems to be cheaper then D700.

a d7000 with 18-300 kit in october? looks like there won’t be a d7100 in the works for a good time

  • Sepp

    so u pay around 2170 € for a d600 or 2600 € for a d800… i know what i am going for if that price tag is right 😛

  • Alex

In US, D600 will be $2000 body only, $2400 with kit lens (24-85).

  • Wt21

Makes my decisin easier. Fuji here I come!

    • Pei

Fuji don’t have FF. What are you talking about?

  • Neil

Going by Japanese street price vs list for the D800 and then scaling down for the D600, you end up with $2440 street for the D600.

    • Neil

      oops, $2200

  • mamber.m

The price includes two kit lens, the ad says.
