Canon announces entry acceptance schedule for New Cosmos of Photography 2016

TOKYO, March 28, 2016—Canon Inc. announced today that the Company will begin accepting entries for its New Cosmos of Photography 2016 (39th edition) photo competition on April 20. The New Cosmos of Photography is Canon’s cultural support project to discover, nurture, and support new photographers who pursue new possibilities in creative photographic expression. Aiming to incorporate diverse perspectives, the number of judges for this year’s competition will be increased to seven toward the realization of an even more open photo exhibition.

Entries for New Cosmos of Photography 2016 will be accepted between April 20 and June 15, 2016, while the Excellence Award selection committee is to meet in July to choose seven Excellence Award winners and fourteen Honorable Mention Award winners. Later, in November, the Grand Prize selection committee is scheduled to meet to select one Grand Prize winner from among the seven Excellence Award-winning entries.

The Grand Prize winner of this year’s competition will receive not only JPY 1 million in prize money and a Canon product, but as an added bonus will be granted the right to hold a solo exhibit at the exhibition of winning entries for next year’s New Cosmos of Photography. Additionally, to encourage the continued pursuit of their creative activities, 2016 Excellence Award and Honorable Mention Award winners will each receive prize money and the right to display their works at this year’s exhibition of winning entries.

A Canon surprise coming at NAB 2016 (working 8K camera and 8K displays)

C500

In a short interview by the NAB Show, Tim Smith, Senior Advisor, Film and TV Production at Canon, when asked what we can expect Canon to showcase at NAB 2016, said:

We will be showing not only our existing product line, with a few surprises, but we will also be showing working 8K cameras and 8K displays that look into the future of production.

The 8K camera will most likely be the replacement for the EOS C500, the EOS C500 Mark II we wrote about it in the past. When asked what he thinks will be trending at NAB, Tim Smith said:

I think you will be seeing some low-cost high-quality offerings that open up many possibilities for both big-and small-budget productions.

NAB 2016 is just 3 weeks away. Stay tuned…

Reminder: How to contribute to the development of the COSYSPEED Camslinger Outdoor bag?

CAMSLINGER Outdoor

If you follow my blog you likely know that I am a big fan of COSYSPEED CAMSLINGER bags. I own a CAMSLINGER 160 Street Edition and it always is my choice for run and gun photography with the EOS M3. It’s a smart concept, it looks cool, and it works well for me.

I am happy that my friend Thomas from COSYSPEED wrote me asking to involve you in a new cool project they have: a CAMSLINGER Outdoor bag. A first prototype is already under development, and is being tested by Swiss climber and photographer Stephan Wiesner.

[At COSYSPEED we] are developing a CAMSLINGER bag for outdoor active photographers, like climbers, hikers or bikers. The CAMSLINGERs are especially designed for mirrorless cameras. The first step of a „CAMSLINGER Outdoor“ prototype is currently under a field test by Swiss photographer and climber Stephan Wiesner. It would be really cool, if your readers could support us with their comments, ideas and suggestions. So we could develop the next step of prototypes using your readers comments and share the results. It would be  great if you could share the video Stephan Wiesner made during a mountain tour in the Alps [editors note: the video below, the same video in German can be found at the bottom of the post].

Note: the German video is at the end of the post.

You can sound off your suggestion in the comment section, or visit COSYSPEED’s Facebook page. Below is a small gallery with images of the CAMSLINGER Outdoor prototype.
