Canon EOS-1D X firmware 2.0.8 spotted in the field

EOS-1D X

A user of the German forum DForum sent his [shoplink 4119]EOS-1D X[/shoplink] in for maintenance, and got it back with firmware version 2.0.8. The latest official firmware for the EOS-1D X is 2.0.7

This happens often. Customer sent in their cameras for various maintenance task and get it back with a newer firmware. Usually this can be interpreted that the new firmware will soon be released. At the time of writing it is not known which bug fixes or new features come with firmware 2.0.8. The user who got the EOS-1D X back with firmware 2.0.8 didn’t find any differences, so it may be safe to assume that it is mainly a bug fix, or that compatibility with new lenses is introduced.

The EOS-1D X replacement, the EOS-1D X Mark II, is rumored to be announced towards the end of 2015. However, though this has been often rumored in the last months, it is still in the realm of speculation. I give an EOS-1D Mark II announcement in 2015 a chance of 50%-60%. In Q1 2016, we expect Canon to announce the EOS 5D Mark IV and the EOS 6D Mark II.

Stay tuned…

The secret life of Canon rumors (or: how rumors change ownership)

A user in the DPReview forum is posting fake EOS 5D Mark IV rumors since a while. Now he posted a new rumor.

I am particularly proud to learn that an important rumor I got back in April was considered good enough to be reposted in a forum. Unfortunately, the generous user totally forgot to credit the source of the rumor.

The rumor in the DPReview forum (posted first on CW) was about a possible model split of the EOS 5D Mark IV. The specs we got back in April have been reposted, using different monikers.
