J. Behiri Shots A Pre-Production Canon EOS 7D Mark II (video)

cinema5d‘s Johnnie Behiri felt the pulse of Canon’s new EOS 7D Mark II, especially for the video features. A pre-production model was used.

All in all the Canon 7D mark II offers surprisingly nice looking and clean video with lovely and accurate colors and no aliasing or moiré.

But also:

One or two years ago this camera would probably have sold like hot cakes. 5D mark III video in a much more affordable APS-C body and slow motion in full HD. But now that 4K is here for many the video might be too soft.

Canon still not implementing 4k video is a bad thing, and not very smart imo. The 5D Mark IV is rumored to have 4k. Let’s hope Canon starts to be less conservative.

Canon EOS 7D Mark II Hands-On Review (Dpreview)

EOS 7D Mark II Hands-On Review

Dpreview posted their hands-on review of the brand new Canon EOS 7D Mark II. An excerpt:

The 7D II offers the same ‘Intelligent Tracking and Recognition’ (iTR) mode introduced in the EOS-1D X, which uses colorinformation from the RGB sensor to identify and track subjects in conjunction with the AF system. Theoretically, this allows the camera to automatically select the appropriate AF point in order to stay on the initially focused subject. It should even detect faces to focus on them (outside of Live View).

Canon Powershot G7 X Hands-On Review (Dpreview)

 Powershot G7 X

Dpreview posted their hands-on review of the Powershot G7 X. An excerpt:

As far as autofocus is concerned, the G7 X features a 31-point contrast-detection AF system (not hybrid). We’ve only used a pre-production sample but our initial impressions of focus speed are very positive. No doubt the tendency to focus with the lens’ aperture wide open – regardless of the shooting aperture – keeps AF working fast and reliably, even in lower light.
