Latest Canon Rumors (new 50mm f/1.4 with IS and EOS 7D II)

The rumors are reported by Northlight Images.

About the EOS 7D Mark II they report that two different dealer sources said that

[…] the 7D2 is being actively positioned against an upcoming D400 from Nikon and will be announced around the same time along with new lenses (the 50/1.4 should join the new range of IS primes for example)

Yes, and there should be soon a new 50mm f/1.4 lens with added image stabilization. The actual one (which still is an outstanding lens) dates back to 1993. NL writes

As part of Canon's revamp of their prime lens range, expect a replacement for the […] 50/1.4, with added image stabilisation next year

Good luck to anyone without tons of money buying a Canon lens. If Canon really does put IS in the 50mm f/1.4, expect a price of over $900 for this non-L lens. This would be ridiculous. Is anyone really buying up these new Canon lenses (24mm, 28mm, 35mm) with IS at extremely high prices for what you get? Maybe Sigma will put out a new 50mm f/1.4 based on the new 35mm f/1.4 lens that I am enjoying so much.

Exactly. I’m also looking forward to the update of the 50mm f1.4 from Sigma. Got fed up with Canon’s pricing on their new lenses.

  • Can’t wait to see what the 7D2 holds in store for us! Just hope it comes soon…

Well , if the 7d2 is same as the spec leaked couple of days ago , then it wasn’t attractive…. Hope the 7d2 will have some stunning spec…..or I will keep using the 7d…

Sigma won’t be any cheaper! Their new 35mm is at $ 800. 50mm won’t be much different!

Why are people always saying how great the old 50mm 1.4’s are? (Canon, nikon afd, sony (minolta) etc.). Sure they’re great when stopped down to around f5.6 but wide open they have one thing in common; they all suck. Nikon have updated their’s in recent years and sony (zeiss) are about to. So hurry up canon and get a move on with it.

I highly doubt we’ll see a 50 1.4 with IS but maybe a 1.8 instead. I’m interested either way so long as the IS actually works.
