Rumor: Canon Lenses That May Be Announced In 2013 (and no EOS 70D On March 22)

The EF 100-400mm, introduced in 1998

I got some tidbits about lenses that Canon may announce in the next months, or at least before end of 2013. This comes from a new source, so take everything with a grain of salt (some things look a bit weird to me). The same source also stated that some of the lenses listed below could be announced on Friday March 22nd, though I am pretty sure that Canon will not announce any lens next Friday. Finally, the source said there will not be an EOS 70D announcement. The EOS 70D is said to be announced later on, but before Summer 2013. Some of the lenses already showed up in previous rumors.

Rumored lenses:

  • EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 IS II
  • EF 14-24mm f/2.8L
  • EF 35mm f/1.2L II
  • EF 135mm f/2L II
  • EF 19mm f/2.8L

Rumor: Full List Of Next Canon Product Announcements (Friday March 22)

EOS 700D
The upcoming Canon EOS 700D (Rebel T5i/Kiss X7i)

We got a series of rumors and leaks (here, here, here) during the last day. And now we have what most probably is the complete list of what Canon is going to announce next Friday (March 22nd):

The following is a list of Canon's new product will be announced in Korea:

– PowerShot SX280 HS

– PowerShot SX270 HS

– PowerShot A2500 (in certain overseas previously announced)

– (In Japan previously announced) IXUS 255 HS

– EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM

– EOS 700D 18-55 STM KIT (in Japan Kiss X7i)

– EOS 700D 18-135 STM KIT (in Japan Kiss X7i)

– EOS 100D 18-55 STM KIT (in Japan Kiss X7)

– EOS 100D (in Japan Kiss X7)

As you can see, the name of the new extra-small Canon DSLR should be EOS 100D (and not EOS-b). Funny that they used a 3 digit name and not a 4 digit name, typical for the most entry level Canon DSLRs.

Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM Excellent Performance And Quality Confirmed By DxOMark

Sigma 35mm f/1.4

The Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM (price & specs) is an awesome piece of gear. We featured many reviews here and all credited the high quality of the Sigma (see here and here to get an idea). DxOMark’s test lab measurements fully confirm what previous reviews stated: the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM has outstanding optical performance and build quality. And, last but not least, it comes at an affordable price for what it offers, $899. DxOMark’s conclusion (the lens has been tested in the Nikon version):

Sigma has stated previously that it was upping its game with new pro-level lens designs and the new 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM is not only on a par with OEM lenses optically it surpasses them in most areas, especially in both acutance and resolution. It’s lens that’s designed not only for the very best of today’s sensors but it appears well suited to handle the demands of the next generation of high-resolution imaging chips. The lens sets a new benchmark for optical performance for a retro-focus lens in this focal length and it’s a feat that’s even more remarkable given the price is well-below that of any of the big name brands.
