Canon Might Have An RF-mount Fisheye Zoom In The Pipeline

Rf 5.2mm F/2.8L

Nothing surprising here. Why should Canon not work on a fisheye zoom lens for the EOS R system.

Rumor has it that…:

[…] a zoom fisheye similar to the EF version will be coming for the RF mount. It will be an “all-new” optical design and will work just fine on both crop and full-frame cameras.

For the time being, Canon only released the RF 5.2mm f/2.8L USM Dual Lens Fisheye for the EOS R system. The RF 5.2mm aims at virtual reality applications.

As usual, take it with salt. Unless the usual few Japanese sites confirm it, it’s just educated speculation.

Stay tuned, or even better: don’t, and get out taking pics.

Canon Patent: Medical Devices To Use EOS R Technology

Canon Patent

Canon wants their EOS R system (and technology) to be everywhere. Medical devices included.

A newly spotted Canon patent (published 6/6/23) discusses methods and technology to implement EOS R camera technology on medical devices.

From the patent literature:

An object of the present invention is to provide an imaging apparatus that enables confirmation of medical information and imaging parameters, and also allows confirmation of medical information before imaging of image data.

Description of the Related Art Techniques

For associating an image with information about the subject of the image have been proposed. In Patent Document 1, in an imaging device, an image of a code is captured, the code is analyzed, patient information corresponding to the code is acquired from a database, the patient information is superimposed on a live view image, and captured image data is obtained. It is described that patient information is recorded in association with.

In a camera that stores medical information such as patient information in association with image data, it is important for the user to confirm that the medical information is correct. there is Furthermore, at the time of shooting, it is also important to check shooting parameters (Av/Tv/exposure compensation/Iso, etc.) for shooting high-quality image data.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide an imaging apparatus that
enables confirmation of medical information and imaging parameters, and also allows confirmation of medical information prior to imaging of image data.

This going to be part of Canon’s Medical Photo Solutions. The example shows a camera with an EOS R-like design and the ability to display medical parameters. Using the network system, it will be possible to display information on the camera by linking it with the hospital system.

Canon EOS R5 Replacement Coming Q4 2023?

Canon EOS R5 Review

Another shift in the expected announcement date for the successor of the Canon EOS R5. I’d take this one with the same salt mine as the others. In other words: do not be suprised when after the Summer the rumored announcement will be in 2024.

However, the latest has it that a “very good source” suggested the replacement for the EOS R5 will be a Q4 2023 affair. But there is more. Another rumor coming from the same source states that Canon may release two EOS R5s. One is the EOS R5 Mark II and the other is a unique high-resolution EOS R5 camera (the long rumored high resolution EOS R). The truth is, no one know shit until the usual few Japanese sites are leaking something solid. Everything else, in 90% of the cases, is just bla bla yadda yadda.

Forget bs rumors and go out snapping photos, it’s healthier.

Canon Patent: 35mm f/1.3 Lens With Very Short Back Focus

Canon Patent

A new Canon patent was spotted. Will this lens ever hit the shelves? Unlikely in our opinion.

Canon patent application 2023077336 (Japan, published 6/5/23) discusses optical formulas for a 35mm f/1.3 lens.

An object of the present invention is to realize an optical system capable of reducing ghosts in a desired wavelength region in spite of having a large aperture and a small lens.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to an optical system and the like, and is suitable for imaging apparatuses such as digital video cameras, digital still cameras, broadcast cameras, surveillance cameras, cameras for wearable devices, and cameras for mobile devices.

2. Description of the Related Art
There is a demand for a high-performance optical system that reduces the occurrence of ghosts and flares. In order to reduce the occurrence of ghosts and flares, a method of providing an antireflection film on the lens surface is known.
In recent years, optical systems have become larger in diameter and smaller in size, and the opening angle of lenses tends to increase. However, due to problems in manufacturing the antireflection film, the antireflection effect in the periphery of the lens with a large opening angle may be inferior to the antireflection effect in the position on the optical axis.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide an optical system capable of reducing ghosts, particularly in a desired wavelength region, while having a large aperture and a small lens.

Example 1

  • Focal length: 12.40
  • F-value: 1.30
  • Half angle of view: 32.82
  • Image height: 8.00
  • Overall length: 21.76
  • Back focus: 0.44

Example 2

  • Focal Length: 33.53
  • F-value: 1.30
  • Half angle of view: 32.83
  • Image height: 21.64
  • Overall length: 61.97
  • Back focus: 0.29
