[Review] Ken Rockwell Spoke About The EOS M

Just a quick post I shamelessly “stole” from my friends over at Ken Rockwell gave us his word and thoughts about the newly released EOS M: No one made it right but Canon, EOS M is the “world’s first serious mirrorless camera

By “serious,” I mean professional grade. Sony, Samsung, Olympus, Panasonic and other third-tier brands offer lots of mirrorless cameras, but then aren’t pro grade; they are just consumer electronics products and usually only with smaller 4/3 sensors (or smaller) and/or lens mounts often with few advanced lenses available.

No comment. :-)

ken rockwell is the chuck norris of photography.

and duh, theres the Fuji X-pro1.

    Dumbass ken rockwell.

It makes me feel a LOT better that Ken doesn’t think that a Olympus OM-D mounted up with the Oly 12mm f/2, 45mm f/1.8 or the NEW 75mm f/1.8 lens is “pro grade” imaging.
I own a Canon FF. Never got the attraction of APS-C sensor. It is so nowhere land. Now Ken…you have a giant, pro grade “Point&Shoot” mirrorless camera. Maybe you want the great EOS adapter so you can match that new pro camera up with the new Canon EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM Autofocus Lens Ken ….just for you …how fitting you A-hole.
      Too funny.
Ken likes to hear himself talk more than I do…which is a lot…can’t you just feel the breeze from all of his hot air. Everybody else thought is was Global Warming.

      I love my 5DMARKIII, nothing replaces it…..
..but MicroFourThirds ROCKS….it is so small and the image quality is so good for its size.

I imagine Ken Rockwell living in a cave isolated from the world.
How in the world can he expect ANYONE to take him seriously when he says that the Canon EOS M was the only mirrorless camera that got it right??? Ken, please, at least don´t be so obvious that you´re getting money under the table to say an atrocity like this.

Everyone is moaning about the 3yr old sensor in use, but Canon will debut the next APS sensor in the next 7D model until than minor increments are made to the cameras, focus, screen build etc.

As much as people are complaining about this camera, is the IQ better than the G5 most probably, better than the EM5 possibly, Nex5n and Nex 7 probably not!

But what it does have going for it, is a company with the ability to produce great lenses for the system! Also the EF adapter maybe expensive but Canon has a better lens line up than Sonys!

This is version 1 of the EOS-M lineup and it is already in the middle of the mirrorless camera pack! Now when Canon release the next senor, and the pro body it will again move to the top of the food chain!

From the videos the menu looks easier to navigate than the Nex 5!

So whilst we are expecting a game changer, lets give credit to Canon who even though are using a 3yr old sensor still offering better IQ than Nikon mirrorless, Panasonic, possibly Olympus and only bettered by Sony Nex when using the sigma lenses or the zeiss, as the kits really do not do the sensor any justice!

…but it doesn’t have the lenses NOW. It doesn’t have a view finder NOW.
MFT has AF lenses from fisheye to 600mm (equivalent)! A LOT of fast primes, water housing, etc. etc. etc. NOW.
The M is a point and shoot Soccer-Mom camera. It is not for serious photographers. (please see Ken Rockwell).

EOS-M is a point-and-shoot camera with the exception that you can change the lens.

Hey Frank…did you see the price drop on the 5DMarkIII at B&H? $3349. (whah I paid $3500! LOL)

  • bah

I tried a few mirrorless, all equally shitty, except the Ricoh GXR that I use greedily (but has a limited system). This looks like another toy, with no EVF and no knobs.
    I need:
a proper UI (like Ricoh + touch screen for those who like it)
a proper sensor (135 and clean)
a proper body with weather sealing
small lenses (like certain old Olympus, Voigt and Pentax)
    I don’t need:
    jpg effects
bogus “innovations” useful to sell crap for gold

  • Mal

You have got to be kidding. Even the Canon fanboys are silenced in their dissappointment, so you are on your own with this one Ken.

  • Keith

Ken must be losing so many hits and respect that the only way he can get more hits is to come out with farcical statements. In the press they call it ‘bad publicity is still publicity’

It really is the end of Ken’s Internet fame…

    • He has also been “certifying” lenses for use with the 36MP Nikon D800 which I found to be pretty amusing ;-) I don’t know if he’s coming out and stating “certifications” in the posts about lenses but that phrasing did come through in he RSS feed for several posts recently.

  • avds

Wow, he must have waited for this thingie for too long to say something meaningful… Brand loyalty at its worst.

  • laugh

thats bullshit… this thing is a little toy compared to the NEX7.

  • Physica

I’m canon user , but what he said made me feel disgusting….. If it’s not a brand bias , then he must be bought to speak for Canon……

  • vekkio

ken rockwell….. pffffff….. guys let’s take the canon-M for what it is (at least for now!).. is not a pro mirrorless and is not made to be, also an extreme canon funboy could admit it. and is unfair to hide the (normal seen that the system just arrived) lack of lenses behind the huge EF system lenses.. MFT with adapters can mount everything has a glass on top… so what?!
Let’s give the time to the canon-m to mature in peace, the MFT system has took 3 YEARS of massive development to arrive to the level where is now and (like system) is the more advanced in the mirrorless panorama.
Ken… you are selling lies… shame on you…

  • shmalface

Too bad it doesn’t look like the only serious mirrorless camera. The aesthetics of that thing embody consumer point and shoots. Canon Fail.
