[Rumor] Canon Working On A New 50mm f/1.8 IS?

A new rumor surfaced, saying Canon is working on a replacement for its 50mm f/1.4 USM lens:

A purported replacement to the EF 50 f/1.4 was mentioned today in the form of an EF 50 f/1.8 IS. The lens would be smaller than the current 50 f/1.4. There is no imminent announcement of such a lens, but Canon is working to replace the 50 f/1.4 sometime in the next year. The current 50 f/1.8 would remain in the lineup.

Sounds plausible to me.

We’ve had rumor after rumor over the last 4 years about new EOS 50mm lenses of various description, but every one has come to nothing. Surprising really, as the range remains weak. The plastic mount f1.8 has had lots of stick over many years, but keeps selling on low price. The f1.4 has developed a well earned reputation for breaking (micro motor I believe). The f1.2 sells to people who want the aperture. Some Canon users think the Sigma f1.4 is the best choice.

Canon don’t seem to have given enough here considering the popularity of the 50mm lens category. Surely there is the market for Canon to produce a top quality ring USM 50mm f1.4 lens????

the 1.8 is the cheapo lens !! so why canon will add an IS and this lens will have around the same price of the 1.4 but with only f/1.8 this rumor make non sens !!
