Lenstip reviewed the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM lens, the UFO: Unbelievable F-stop Object. As you most probably know if you live on this planet, the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 is the first zoom lens for APS-C DSLR to deliver constant f/1.8 over the whole zoom range. As if that wasn’t amazing enough, Sigma managed to give a more than fair price to this lens: $799, while most people was expecting a price tag at least over $1000. So, the suspect was Sigma could have had to make some compromises on some aspects of the lens. Nope. The featured review shows once more how outstanding the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 is. Read more after the break.

The reviewers appreciated many characteristics of the Sigma 18-35mm, as the solid build, the excellent image quality, low chromatic aberrations, moderate distortion, the accurate auto-focus, and more. In the conclusion they write:
You should congratulate the Sigma Corporation and their optics specialists for two reasons. Firstly for their courage – they attempted to produce an instrument no other company had tried to construct before. Such a situation a lot can be forgiven so their product didn’t have to be outstanding. Still it is obvious Sigma wasn’t contended with half measures; not only they manufactured a unique instrument but also made it optically excellent in many categories.
All in all, another comprehensive review that investigates all aspects of the lens and comes to a more than positive conclusion. This is the lens to get if you are an APS-C shooter! Sample shots are here, auto-focus tests here.
