Rumor: EF 100-400mm Replacement Set To Be Released Together With Canon EOS 7D Mark II

[shoplink 124]EF 100-400mm Replacement[/shoplink]

It is due since long, there are rumors surfacing now and then, but nothing concrete happened so far. Canon’s EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS lens [shoplink 124](price & specs)[/shoplink] should be replaced by a newer version of the lens. Now a new rumor showed up. The new EF 100-400mm could be announced together with the EOS 7D Mark II after summer or in early fall 2013. The 100-400mm will probably not be available along with the 7D Mark II, but it appears as if Canon thinks the 100-400 will fit well with the 7D Mark II from a marketing point of view. Oh, one last thing: the new 100-400mm will not be cheap :-)

Look What You Can Make With A Canon EOS 7D And An EF 100-400mm Lens (Machu Picchu High Res Pic)

This will most probably not be part of the daily assignment or the holiday pics of the majority of the photographers out there. Never the less it is impressing.

Rainforest Expeditions tour director Jeff Cremer visited Peru’s Machu Picchu back in November 2012 and shot 1,920 photos using a Canon EOS 7D [shoplink 337](price & specs)[/shoplink] and a Canon EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS lens [shoplink 124](price & specs)[/shoplink]. The whole shooting lasted almost two hours. The images have later been stitched together, the overall rendering time was one and a half hour. The final image has a size of 297,500 x 87,500 pixels and a resolution of 15.9 Gigapixels.

You can see the image and read the interview with Jeff Cremer here. The image can also be seen here.
