PetaPixel reviewed the new Canon EOS R5 Mark II, and their impression is very positive. From their conclusion:

[…] it is clear that Canon has made a versatile camera that keeps the pressure on the Nikon Z8 and is also Canon’s best hybrid video and stills capture device. I still feel like the form factor and handling of the Z8 are excellent and I prefer the layout to the R5 Mark II. However, there is no denying that the Z8 still gives a similar stills shooting experience and some video improvements, all at a lower price.

What the Canon R5 Mark II represents is Canon’s most capable all-round camera to date and it is easy to see why it has overshadowed even the EOS R1. I think many Canon shooters will opt to go with the R5 Mark II as a preferred tool for shooting sports, action, and wildlife, even though the R1 and R3 are more specialized tools in this regard. The fact is, Canon has given the R5 Mark II a capable sensor with good electronic shutter characteristics and a far more versatile megapixel count […]

A well known rumors mill came up with an interesting rumor. AI coming to be featured on the Canon EOS R5 Mark II. But is it reliable?

The long rumored Canon EOS R5 Mark II is now said to feature artificial intelligence (AI). While there are no suggestions about what AI might do on the EOS R5 Mark II, it is likely it will regard autofocus. AI could be helpful in tracking faces and/or people, even specific faces or people. But it might also be used for in-camera processing, scene settings. If the AI rumor is true, you might expect it to be featured on the EOS R1 too.

The EOS R5 Mark II is now rumored to have 45MP (60MP in the past). Moreover, both the EOS R5 Mark II and “white unicorn”-EOS R1 are said to be announced around May 2024.

Please be aware that rumors are nothing but rumors, and that there is people relying on them to pay the bills at month’s end. So, do not take anything too serious. Even better, forget rumors and go out to snap pictures.

Stay tuned for more, if you want.

What will Canon release in 2024, what can we expect?

A new rumor suggests what Canon might have on their radar for 2024.

  • Canon EOS R5 Mark II might be released within the next months, say around April 2024, and it will be announced before the Canon EOS R1
  • A development announcement of the Canon EOS R1 might happen at the same time as the EOS R5 Mark II announcement
  • Still at the same time, Canon might announce the RF 28mm f/1.4 or f/1.8 and the Canon RF 35mm f/1.2L
  • The Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Z might be announced around July 2024, might have internal zoom and “power zoom” functionality
  • Both the C300 and C500 series of cameras might get an update before IBC in September 2024

Some of the gear in the list above is rumored since long, since years, indeed. The EOS R1 was rumored sine the EOS R system came into existence, and the same can be said for the RF 35mm f/1.2L. This is gear that Canon will (or might) announce sooner or later, so the rumors will end to be reliable, sooner or later.

Forget rumors, go out and snap pics.

A Few Days After The Quad Pixel AF Patent, The Same Surfaces As A Rumor

Still having doubts about how shitty the rumor industry is?

A few days ago, a Canon patent for Quad Pixel Autofocus was spotted. Today, it became a rumor.

After the patent, now there is “a strong likelihood of Quad Pixel Autofocus being featured in the EOS R5 Mark II“, although “confirmation on this aspect is not as concrete at the moment“. Of course it is not.

If you want to see for yourself what and how much bs has been spilled so far about the EOS R5 Mark II, have a look here. Believe me, no one knows anything and before the few, reliable Japanese sites post something, no one will know anything. They are just pretending.

Forget rumor bs, use your brain and your camera for photography.
