Rumor: EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM Lens For Canon EOS M May Be Around The Corner!

EF-M 11-22mm

Digicame-info (translated) broke the news just a few minutes ago: It appears that a new lens for the Canon EOS M system is around the corner. It should be an image stabilized 11-22mm f/4-5.6 lens, the EF 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM. Unfortunately there are no more specs leaked for this lens, just that the filter diameter will be 55mm. I guess the lens will be very compact.

Such a wide-angle zoom was murmured in the past, so I think the rumor is quite plausible. Moreover, Canon’s Masaya Maeda clearly stated that Canon is working on more lenses for the EOS M system.

Who want to invest in such a slow camera?

Me, and I am sure I will take better picture with it than you with whatever you take 😉

Canon EOS-M is still an inferior camera. Why bother to buy its lens?

          Eric,
It is for the form factor. Yes it is not as good technically as DSLRs, but that is not the purpose.
It is something you can bring in your coat pocket and enjoy the picture quality of a DSLR.
At restaurant for exemple, I find it easy to take a picture with the pancake lens. Every day you can have this picture quality in your pocket, not in a big DSLR bag or at home. It sound weird to go to the restaurant with a big DSLR, even something like a 600D, it is bulky, not discreet. Any form factor like the M suit perfectly well these types of social environment where you want to be “in”, with a DSLR quality, not being the guy with his bulky thing to take a casual picture that everyone will look one time and when you are not doing a paid job.
DSLR are better, yes, but this camera as another purpose.
