Canon EOS 7D Mark III to feature 30MP sensor and 4K [CW2]

canon rumorscanon rumors

Edit: I made a dumb typo in the title. It should have been “…and 4K” and not “and DPAF”. Has been corrected.

This is the first Canon EOS 7D Mark III tidbit I get (thanks). My source suggests the Canon EOS 7D Mark III will feature a 30MP sensor.

The Canon EOS 7D Mark III will most likely be announced next year during summer. It’s very early for reliable rumors. However, this one is at least plausible so I decided to post it.

A 30MP sensor on the EOS 7D Mark III is in the realm of possible. The EOS 7D Mark II features a 20MP sensor, an increase of resolution of 8MP 10MP would be in line with Canon’s conservative politics when it comes to upgrading a product.

For all the 4K fanatics out there: we have been told the 7D3 will have 4K. Well, I guess in 2018 4K is mandatory even for Canon. Finally, the EOS 7D Mark III should be more video-oriented than the EOS 7D Mark II.

Stay tuned.

I was hoping to go full frame, but canon dropped the ball with the 6Dii. So, holding out hope they do a better job with the 7Diii. Even though it won’t be ff, it will still be an upgrade.

Canon’s 5D series are the prosumer FF DSLRs. FF 7Ds will never happen! Its not the model designation for FF.

      • Tech Addict

Yes you’re right. That’s what I said in my comment. It won’t be FF but it will be an upgrade at least.

        • Gilboa

Yes, didn’t pay enough attention to the comment I suppose. The rumoured spec so far for the 7D Mk3 seems quite impressive if true. It might give the Nikon D500 a run for its money.

Sensor size, sensor size. So much concentration over the last half decade on sensor size while all other technology implementation has fallen so far behind. Bus speed, IO (usb 3.0), CFAST across platforms, and mPcie all have fallen so far behind the comon standard consumer and prosumer user interfaces. The touch screen AF was introduced nearly 5 years ago by Canon on the 60D. Only now is it being implemented across platforms, however all aren’t articulating (5dmk4). Go figure. Because of external pressure from smartphones? Take the device from your pocket. It’s as if one goes back in time a few years when using the “modern” camera.

    20 + 8 = 30?

I certainly hope it ALSO has an articulated screen, and clean HDMI output.

Which begs the question of what the 90D will have. I’m hoping they don’t pull another 80D/7DII, and offer a flippy screen on one, clean HDMI on the other, and never the twain shall meet.

if indeed 7D is going from 20MP to 30MP (the same res as the FF 5D Mk4…curious) they’ll probably achieve it by going to a BSI-CMOS sensor. That way the light receptors won’t need to shrink as much. Thus avoiding too much of an increase in noise, I’d imagine.

It’s certainly possible. However, we have to remember that there were all sorts of rumours right up to when the 7D mkII was released that it was going to have a super new sensor, much higher resolution etc. When in reality it was just a warmed up 70D sensor. I think Canon will certainly want to outdo the Nikon D500.

all I want is a 90D better than Nikon d7200 (which I currently own but hate it, compared to the 70D which I’m about to sell, a far superior camera in terms of usability, but with an older sensor). or I’ll stick to 80D if d7200 won’t get me.
