Canon USA Lists The EOS 7D Mark III – Sign Or Mistake? Tell Us In Poll

Canon Eos 7d Mark Iii

Canon USA’s website lists the Canon EOS 7D Mark III. Is this a mistake or is it a sign an announcement might come soon?

As you can see in the image on top, the Canon EOS 7D Mark III is listed among other Canon cameras for having “clean HDMI out”. Indeed, you can reach the page of the screenshot above by searching for “clean HDMI out” and then switching to the “Knowledge Base” tab for results. It’s the first entry.

Does this mean the Canon EOS 7D Mark II replacement is ready to get announced, or is it just an unfortunate placeholder? We are not sure yet but lean more towards the mistake/placeholder opinion. In the past there have been some related rumors but it’s a long time we didn’t here anything reliable.

But Canon listing the 7D3 is a thing. Maybe it was planned and then dropped from Canon’s agenda? A camera like the 7D3 is likely to take long R&D and testing times and maybe, just maybe, the success of the Canon EOS R made Canon change their mind? Moreover, there have been rumors that Canon might release an EOS R body with APS-C sensor, and that such a camera could replace the EOS 7D Mark II. It’s all just speculation but it seems to fit together.

What do you think? Let us know through the poll.

What does the fact Canon is listing the EOS 7D Mark III mean?

What To Expect From Canon In 2019 (80D/7D2 replacement, new EOS M)

Canon Eos M5 Mark II

Another mention suggesting Canon is set to replace both the EOS 80D and the EOS 7D Mark II with one camera. There might be no EOS 7D Mark III. The DSLR replacing the EOS 80D and 7D Mark II is expected by August 2019.

What’s new is that Canon might announce a new, feature rich and aggressively specced EOS M camera. Hopefully this will put an end to the “EOS R with APS-C sensor” speculations. The EOS M is Canon’s APS-C system and we think it is highly unlikely an EOS R camera with crop sensor will ever surface.

We also expect a new EOS R camera towards the end of 2019. According to our sources it will feature a high resolution sensor.

Finally, there are still five RF lenses that Canon has already announced both not yet released.

What To Expect From Canon In 2019

Canon Rumors Color Calibration

Canon announced their mirrorless system, two models are on the market. What’s next for the Japanese industry giant?

Predictions about Canon’s agenda have become quite difficult since the company is pretty secretive. However, some predictions can be made.

In general, Canon will focus on updating product lines and launching new ones, like the ZV-123 instant camera with built-in printer.

Three new PowerShot G series cameras might be announced. We expect the PowerShot G7 X Mark III, PowerShot G5 X Mark II and PowerShot G9 X Mark III to get announced within 2019. Stuff leaked about the PowerShot G7 X Mark III, almost nothing about the other two cameras.

The Canon EOS 80D and EOS 7D Mark II are also ready to be replaced. Rumor has it that Canon may launch one new camera to replace both the EOS 80D and the 7D Mark II. The replacement for the EOS 80D appears to be more likely to be announced this year, we are less confident about the EOS 7D Mark III. Some new Rebels are most likely also on Canon’s agenda. Finally, new Cinema gear and camcorders can be expected to be launched in 2019. We do not think Canon will announced the replacement for the EOS -1D X Mark II in 2019.

A new EOS R model is possible in 2019, although rumors suggest Canon will not announce a new EOS R model. If they do, it will be a high resolution EOS R camera. There are also six new RF lenses Canon already announced they will develop. These six new RR lenses might well be announced in 2019.

And the EOS M system? A new EOS M model is possible in 2019, though we didn’t get any hints so far.

Stay tuned.

Canon Set To Shrink APS-C DSLR Line-up, One Model To Replace Both EOS 7D2 and 80D?

Eos 80d

Both the Canon EOS 90D and the EOS 7D Mark III are somewhat overdue, and still no signs pointing either to specs or an announcement date.

Given the popularity of the Canon EOS 80D and the EOS 7D Mark II we’d expect that Canon is working on a replacement for both. But this might not be the case.

Although ranked low, Canon Rumors reports a rumor suggesting that

[…] the APS-C DSLR lineup will shrink in model numbers and that the EOS 80D and EOS 7D Mark II cameras will be amalgamated into one DSLR body. The EOS 77D will remain the DSLR above the Rebels […]

This is not the first time rumors suggest a shake up in Canon’s APS-C DSLR offering. Given how meticulously Canon segments its market offering we tend to think this rumor is not reliable. On the other hand, it’s the mirrorless age and Canon might well decide to shift some of their camera offerings to mirrorless technology.

Personally, I’m a huge fan of the EOS 80D, which happens to be my preferred walk around and travel camera, and therefore hope Canon will announce a replacement soon. The EOS 80D is a kind of camera where Canon got a lot of things right, and a delivers a lot of tech for the bucks.

The Canon EOS 7D Mark II Shows Up As Discontinued at B&H Photo (EOS 7D Mark III Rumor)

Canon Eos 7d Mark Iii

Thanks Peter.

Not that we didn’t know Canon will announce the Canon EOS 7D Mark III soon.

B&H Photo lists the Canon EOS 7D Mark II body only option as discontinued. First signs were already visible in April 2018.

Yes, it is a sign the Canon EOS 7D Mark III is coming (all rumors). The next announcement date candidate is ahead of Photokina 2019 (in May 2019), so it would be Q1 2019. We give it a 50% reliability at the time of writing. So far very little has leaked about the EOS 7D Mark III. All we know comes from leaked data from wireless certification authorities.

I wonder if the Canon EOS 7D Mark III will eventually have a tiltable display. There will also be an obvious increase in sensor resolution. What else can we expect?

Stay tuned, there is more to come…

Canon Mirrorless Related Announcement on September 4/5, 2018?

Canon Rumors Canon Full Frame Mirrorless

We have been told (thanks) that Canon may stage a mirrorless-related announcement on September 4 or 5, 2018. This is partially in contrast with a previous rumor which stated that a major Canon announcement would happen in the second week of September 2018. Partially, because there might be different interpretations on what “second week” means, and some hints unfortunately get lost in translation.

At the time being we do not know if the announcement is about the replacement for the Canon EOS M5 (rumored to be the EOS M5 Mark II), or if it is about the so much emotionally anticipated Canon full frame mirrorless camera (all rumors).

As most of you likely know, Nikon has already stated very officially (and loud) that they will announce something evolutionary, and clearly based on a full frame mirrorless design. So, it’s just straight forward to expect the market leader, that’s Canon, to follow soon.

What do we know? Canon will announce new gear ahead of Photokina 2018, that’s sure. On top of the probability ranking you’ll find the EOS M5 Mark II, a 32-35mm f/1.4 or f/1.8 lens for the EOS M system, the Canon full frame mirrorless camera (at least one), and maybe some more gear (lenses?). Please note: at the time being it’s not sure if we will see Canon’s full frame mirrorless camera in 2018 or in Q1 2019.

We didn’t get any new intel about the EOS 90D/EOS 80D Mark II or the EOS 7D Mark III. An announcement in 2018 is still in the realm of possibilities but appears to become more unlikely as time goes by.

What to say? Stay tuned, because the next weeks will tell.
