Canon Patent: Lens Design Based On EF 135mm f/2

Canon Patent

A new Canon patent application for a lens that seems based on the optical design of the EF 135mm f/2.

Canon patent application 2024133316 (Japan, published 10/1/2024) discusses optical formulas for a 135mm f/2 lens.

From the patent literature:

  • Patent Document 1 discloses an optical system in which various aberrations such as chromatic aberration are effectively corrected by appropriately arranging a positive lens made of a material with a small Abbe number (high dispersion material).
  • According to the present invention, it is possible to provide an optical system and an imaging device which are small in size and in which various aberrations such as chromatic aberration are well corrected.

Example 1

  • Focal length: 130.77
  • F-number: 2.06
  • Half angle of view: 9.39
  • Image height: 21.64
  • Overall length: 132.51
  • Back focal length: 25.26

Example 2

  • Focal length: 130.46
  • F-number: 2.06
  • Half angle of view: 9.42
  • Image height: 21.64
  • Overall length: 146.16
  • Back focal length: 17.93
