Canon sees opportunities in Asian soccer

TOKYO — Canon Marketing Japan hopes to parlay its sponsorship of the J. League, the country’s professional soccer circuit, into a full-fledged business.
It plans to offer services such as brokering sponsorship deals between Japanese companies and foreign soccer clubs, or setting up joint events with foreign teams.
Japanese companies that buy these services would first have to be a sponsor of a J. League team.
Canon Marketing will help make introductions between Japanese companies and soccer clubs in other Asian countries. Sponsorship arrangements could help Japanese companies raise their profiles in specific countries.
