To be honest I was tempted to title this post “Canon unveils its first domestic surveillance camera“. But we do not want to be too harsh, do we?

Canon released the Canon PowerShot PX, a camera made “to transform how family photograph“. The camera is always on, follows anything you do, has face recognition and notes when people smiles, and takes photos. Absolutely nothing to be worried about. Will look good near an always listening Alexa or Echo toy.

The PowerShot PX is coming to Europe and the UK in November 2021 for £500/€500 (around $585). There’s no word yet on a release to North America. Guess there is already enough surveillance (and surveillance toys) in the US. You can preorder the Canon PowerShot PX at Canon Germany | Canon UK

Look back on a digital scrapbook of candid moments with PowerShot PX’s iOS and Android app¹ and get recommendations from this clever camera on the strongest shots to keep. These cherished photos and videos are then stored on a memory card for easy upload to a computer. Manually control the camera with the app to compose the perfect shot and capture images from a distance, all without the need to run back and forth to check the device. Families can even customise automatic shooting settings, angle the lens to snap pictures in their own style and select familiar faces within the app to increase priority when shooting.
