Notice regarding the publication of Canon Sustainability Report 2014

Canon Inc. is pleased to announce that it has published Canon Sustainability Report 2014, which introduces various activities carried out by the Canon Group in 2013.

The Canon Group promotes its CSR activities in line with the basic policy of contributing to the realization of a better society as a good corporate citizen, effectively leveraging the company’s advanced technological strengths, global business deployment and diverse, specialized human resources.

This year’s report highlights the company’s initiatives aimed at reducing CO2 emissions throughout the product lifecycle along with examples of Canon products contributing to society in such categories as medical equipment, network cameras and mixed reality. It also presents Canon’s support for local communities hardest hit by the Great East Japan Earthquake through the Tsuzuri Project, which promotes the preservation and practical use of precious cultural assets, and introduces activities being carried out by Canon Wind, a special subsidiary, to expand job opportunities for persons with disabilities. Additionally, targeting improved reliability and objectivity, the report includes a third-party verification on the Canon Group’s greenhouse gas emissions.

Aiming to become a corporate group that keeps growing together with communities and society, Canon will continue pursuing CSR initiatives in accordance with the needs of each country and region.

The addition of Canon Print Service to Canon’s mobile solutions portfolio expands easy Android device printing support.

Canon Print Service is an ideal solution for existing and new Canon customers, as users who already own compatible Canon systems don’t need to upgrade their printers, nor download new driver software. Users will enjoy printing with options, including paper size, number of copies and orientation, to name a few.

Canon PowerShot N honored with Bronze International Design Excellence Award

TOKYO, July 3, 2014—Canon Inc. announced today that the Company’s PowerShot N digital compact camera (released in April 2013) has been recognized with the Bronze International Design Excellence Award (IDEA) in the Entertainment category by the Industrial Designers Society of America.

Considered the preeminent international design awards competition, the International Design Excellence Awards, launched in 1980, aim to foster business and public understanding of the importance of industrial design excellence to the quality of life and the economy. Products are reviewed based on not only their functions and aesthetic quality, but also such factors as level of innovativeness, as well as benefits to users and to society as a whole. The awards program recognizes the best product designs from a wide range of sectors, including industrial products, consumer electronics and household goods, along with vehicles, sports items and furnishings.

Canon developed the new-concept PowerShot N for users looking to enjoy various ways of capturing and sharing photos via social networking sites using smartphones, tablet PCs and similar devices. Featuring an all-new design and novel operability, the camera includes such features as a Creative Shot mode, which automatically adjusts composition, color and lighting to produce five unique images along with the original photo, as well as a shutter ring that shifts vertically to snap photos. In addition, a Mobile Device Connect Button allows the camera to easily connect to a smartphone or other device with a single touch of a button.

In addition to the IDEA bronze award, the Canon PowerShot N has also been honored with a prestigious 2013 Good Design Award in Japan and 2014 iF Design Award in Germany.
