Company Welcomes Barbara Davidson and Terrell Lloyd into its Revered Program

MELVILLE, N.Y., October 18, 2017 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, is proud to announce the addition of photographers Barbara Davidson and Terrell Lloyd to its renowned Explorers of Light program. These new members add to the already impressive ranks of Canon’s program, expanding its wide range of talented professionals that impact imaging culture and influence the way their audiences see the world. Both Barbara Davidson and Terrell Lloyd will be on hand at the Canon Booth (#121) at PhotoPlus Expo 2017, October 26-28 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City. In addition, Barbara will be a member of a keynote panel at the Expo on Thursday, Oct 26 and will be presenting at the Canon booth on both Thursday, October 26 and Saturday, October 28th. At the Canon booth, she will share her work and experience of shooting with the EOS M5 camera as well as capturing emotional images of conflicts and tragedies. Barbara Davidson is a three-time Pulitzer Prize™ and Emmy-award™ winning photojournalist best known for her work on victims of gang abuse in Los Angeles. As a long-time photographer at the Los Angeles Times, Barbara spent much of the past decade photographing women and children trapped in a culture of poverty and guns. “I am excited to be a part of this great program and look forward to sharing my years of experience with Canon users all over the world,” said Davidson.

Terrell Lloyd is known for his experience shooting professional and college sports. He is currently employed by the San Francisco 49ers as their full-time lead team photographer and managing all of the organization’s photography services. Over the past 25 years, Lloyd has diversified his business by photographing a multitude of events. “Being an Explorer of Light gives me the opportunity to help educate and inspire the next generation of image creators,” said Lloyd.

Canon celebrates significant milestone with production of 90 million EOS series cameras and 130 million interchangeable EF lenses

17th October 2017- Canon Inc. announced today that the Company has reached two major production milestones—a cumulative total of 90 million interchangeable-lens EOS cameras and 130 million¹ EF-series interchangeable lenses. The EOS 5D Mark IV was the 90 millionth EOS Series camera range to be produced, while an EF16-35mm f/2.8L III USM became the Company’s 130 millionth interchangeable lens.

Canon’s EOS system debuted alongside the EF series of interchangeable lenses in March 1987 as the world’s first fully-electronic mount system for film AF SLR cameras. Over the years, both product lines have continued to expand, gaining support among users ranging from first-time users to professionals. Production accelerated in the early 2000’s with the spread of digital SLR cameras. Canon’s interchangeable-lens digital cameras have maintained the No. 1 share of the global market for 14 consecutive years since 2003.2

Since its conception, the EOS series has continued to develop revolutionary technologies under the series concept of “speed and comfort”. Canon has since developed every key device in-house including the CMOS sensors, image processors and interchangeable lenses—employed in the EOS series. Particularly noteworthy are the Company’s EF lenses, which lead the industry in sales and feature such world-first3 innovations such as the Ultrasonic Motor (USM), Image Stabilizer (IS) technology and a multilayered Diffractive Optical (DO) element.

Canon will continue to strengthen and expand the EOS series and EF lens lineups by refining its imaging technologies, by striving to combine optics, stills, video and network technologies. The Company will also continue its pursuit of manufacturing products that are both stylish and reliable.

CanonThe EOS series of interchangeable-lens cameras began with the EOS 650 SLR camera, released in March 1987, that not only featured the world’s first electronic lens mounting system, but also fully digitized communication between the camera body and lens to produce a new generation of autofocus technology.

As film cameras boomed, Canon launched several models covering a wide range of user needs, including the EOS-1 in 1989, aimed at professionals, and the EOS 500 in 1993, which achieved a compact, lightweight design and greatly expanded Canon’s user base. Then in 2003, during the early years of the digital camera age, the Company released the groundbreaking EOS 300D Digital, an entry-level digital SLR camera that offered a compact, lightweight body at an affordable price. This move would trigger a massive expansion of the camera market, with Canon claiming the overwhelming lead in market share that same year. With the later release of the EOS-1D Series for professionals and the EOS 5D series, which helped popularize video capture using SLR cameras, Canon has continued to release epoch-making products that have enabled the Company to maintain the No. 1 share of the global interchangeable-lens digital camera market for 14 consecutive years from 2003 to 2016.

CanonSince the release of the first EF lens, launched alongside the EOS series in 1987, Canon has produced EF lenses featuring world-first technologies such as the EF75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM with IS in 1995, the EF400mm f/4 DO IS USM with a DO lens in 2001 and the EF24mm f/1.4L II USM, treated with highly antireflective

Subwavelength Structure Coating (SWC) in 2008. In 2015 Canon released the EF11-24mm f/4L USM, the world’s first4 ultra-wide-angle zoom lens to achieve an 11mm focal length.

Today, Canon boasts 93 lenses5 in its rich EF lens lineup that comprises of lenses such as an ultra-wide-angle 8 mm focal length lens, an 800mm focal length super-telephoto lens and EF Cinema Series lenses for video production. With a wide selection of lenses for every purpose including zoom lenses, IS-equipped lenses, fast-aperture lenses, macro lenses and even the TS-E tilt-shift lenses, Canon is well-positioned to meet the needs of various users.

Nothing is more satisfying than using a lens like this in real life. Practically speaking, handling is superb- the lens design will not frustrate you when relying on it counts the most. Image stabilization is very effective if you prefer to rely on it. If you don’t mind a constant f/4 aperture like me, you should try one out, but  just be prepared to part with your money. This lens has consistently put a smile on my face, before, during, and after the exposure process.

The new Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2 is a versatile walk-around lens with a fast maximum aperture that consistently delivers great images. It’s very sharp throughout most of the zoom and aperture range, even at the edges of the frame, with sharpness only falling off a little shooting wide open at f/2.8. The new SP 24-70mm G2 also produces very nice bokeh effects thanks to the 9-blade iris diaphragm, although there’s some very obvious vignetting and some barrel distortion at 24mm, plus slight pincushioning at 70mm. Overall, though, there’s little to complain about in the image quality department.

Despite the fact that the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 IS II USM lens is not an “L” series lens, it is still capable of producing excellent images.

Thanks to its relatively small size and light weight, it would make an ideal companion for photographers who want to have a long telephoto length in their bag, perhaps while travelling, or on shoots that involve a lot of walking.

It’s ideally suited to subjects such as wildlife and sport, but as it has a versatile focal length, you could also use it for other subjects such as portraits and still-life shots, making it a good all-round option that you could potentially get a lot of use out of.

Canon is consultant for Japanese Anime production to feature realistic cameras

Canon was recruited for the Japanese Anime production “Just Because!” to make sure cameras depicted in the animation are realistic.

“Just Because!” will start October 5, 2017. One of the main characters is a schoolgirl with a passion for photography.

The character’s main camera is a [shoplink 35613]PowerShot G5 X[/shoplink]. But she is using also other Canon gear, like the [shoplink 22664]EOS 7D Mark II[/shoplink], the [shoplink 43815]EOS M6[/shoplink], and the [shoplink 25455]EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II[/shoplink] lens. Canon’s contribution was to make the cameras and lens look absolutely realistic.
