Sigma added support for the Canon EOS C100 to several lenses via firmware update. The firmware enables auto-focus at any aperture for these lenses when used on a Canon EOS C100:

  • Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC HSM | A
  • Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC OS HSM “Macro” | C
  • Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM “Macro” | C
  • Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM | A

To update the lens’ firmware you need the Sigma USB Dock and Sigma Optimization Pro software.

Sigma Wants To Make A “Very Unique Lens That Never Existed”

Sigma
Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art lens

In an interview with c|net, Mr. Kazuto Yamaki, CEO of Sigma, said some very interesting things. Judge for yourself:

What new models can we expect? Replacements for mainstay lenses like the 70-200mm or models that fit into the holes of your competitors’ product lines?
Yamaki: We have two directions. We have to develop the traditional lenses like the 50mm f1.4, but the other direction is that I really want to make a very unique lens that never existed in the market. […] We are always trying to some something new.

Is there anything new coming this year?
Yamaki: We have already announced our products for this year. Next year we will have several new items.

Something nobody else has?
Yamaki: Next year.

A zoom or prime [fixed focal length] lens?
Yamaki: Both. Well, we are still studying it. We’re not sure we can release it to the market. A new product is quite risky. Sometimes we have to give up in the middle of the development. We were very fortunate to complete the 18-35mm f1.8 design.

All this sound very interesting.

  1. Sigma wants to make a lens that does yet not exist (it would be the 2nd then, because the 18-35mm f/1.8 was also a total innovation, the first zoom lens with constant f/1.8)
  2. There will be new Sigma lenses in 2015
  3. These lenses will be zooms and primes

Go on Sigma!

Canon Rebel T3i Most Used on Flickr And Among Best Selling DSLR On Amazon

Rebel T3i

The Phoblographer did some research and found that the good old Canon Rebel T3i/EOS 600D (released in 2011) is the most used dedicated camera on Flickr, and it is the best selling DSLR on Amazon US (edit: it was until a few days ago, today it’s ranked 2nd).

t3i

The T3i/600D sports an 18MP sensor, a 9 point AF system, shots 3.7 fps, records 1080p HD video, has an articulated screen, and goes up to ISO 12800. The T3i/600D is an excellent option for those who want to start using a serious DSLR without breaking the bank. The T3i/600D with the 18-55mm IS lens currently sells for $549 on Amazon US. Want to see what the T3i/600D delivers? Have a look on Flickr.

EOS 7D Mark II

dc.watch posted a long interview with Canon about the development of the EOS 7D Mark II. Unfortunately (for us) the interview is in Japanese and the only way to access it is via machine translation. From the interview:

What is the difference between the EOS 70D and the EOS 7D Mark II sensor?

[…] in order to improve the high-sensitivity characteristics, we have adopted a new process in the semiconductor manufacturing process.
