Zeiss Distagon T* f/2.8 21mm ZE Lens Reviewed By The Phoblographer

The Pholographer reviewed Zeiss Distagon T* f/2.8 21mm ZE, a lens with outstanding optical properties, anda great lens for street photographers. The price tag? Well it’s a hefty $1843, but then: it’s a Zeiss glass, you pay and get a glass that’s among the best. An EOS 5D Mark II[/shoplink. Was used for testing. They describe the lens as «luxurious, sharp, and clinical». There are many sample images to check. From the conclusion:

Zeiss’s 21mm f2.8 is quite an excellent lens, but with that said we’re not sure who exactly this lens would be for. Though Street Photographers would love this lens, many of them these days opt for rangefinders or mirrorless cameras due to the small size and awesome optics designed for them. Documentary photographers that like to go slow and take their time with the process may want to spring for this lens. Additionally, landscape photographers may also want to try this lens.

Despite the high price tag, the lens earned excellent marks for sharpness, image quality, color rendition, contrast, and build quality. There really is nothing to fault with this lens except the high price tag.But even then, it really is an awesome optic.

Amazing Fashion Shots Made With A Canon EOS M (Readers Work)

I am proud to feature a fashion shot made by our reader Chris McDuffie using a Canon EOS M. Despite the sluggish AF, the EOS M is a versatile camera and, as you can see, delivers outstanding image quality.

The title of the shot is “The Fifth Element”, it takes inspiration form sci-fi movies and high fashion. Chris used the following lenses for the shot:

Canon EF-M 18-55mm STM Lens Review (The Digital Picture), And Pictures From Myanmar

The Digital Picture published a review about the EF-M 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM. ISO 12233 chart, flare, distortion and vignetting test results along with measurements & specifications are considered.

I am currently abroad in Myanmar (former Burma). Internet in Myanmar is a major problem. When it works, it is so slow that you can't upload any pics, neither you can load any pages. Sometimes it takes up to 5 minutes just to send an email. That's why I am seldom able to post anything here at CanonWatch. I am using the lens while abroad in Myanmar, and I am fully satisfied (well, I am missing a more powerful zoom). More to come (Internet permitting).

Suprisingly, the only thing that really works here in Myanmar is Flickr (don't know why). So, as an emergency solution and in order to be able to show you my pics I have to use it. I do not have an account, all the pics are hosted by a good friend (thanks GrandWazoo). Check my Canon EOS M travel pics here.

Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Review

The EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM is surprisingly pricey ($2400) so everyone wants to know how well this lens performs (previously featured reviews here and here). Now it's slrgear's turn to review this Canon lens. Some excerpts from their test:

    • The Canon 24-70mm ƒ/2.8L II USM is one of the sharpest lenses Canon has produced
    • The Canon 24-70mm ƒ/2.8L II USM keeps chromatic aberration very well under control
    • Going from infinity to close-focus takes well less than one second, and point-to-point focusing is lightning quick

From slrgear's conclusion:

Canon has made dramatic improvements to this lens series, which is sure to become the darling of Canon wedding shooters around the globe. The price tag is significantly steep, but there are enough improvements over the previous lens to more than justify the price.

Specifications:

Large aperture L-Series standard zoom lens that combines high image quality and enhanced durability.

New optical design utilizes one Super UD lens element and two UD lens elements to minimize chromatic aberration in the outer area at wide-angle; as well as eliminates color blurring around the edges of the subject, for images with high resolution and contrast.

Combines 2 types of aspherical lenses to reduce spherical aberration, and achieve high image quality across the entire screen area and throughout the full zoom range.

Highly resistant to dust and water, enabling shooting even in harsh and rigorous conditions.

Circular diaphragm (9 blades) delivers beautiful, soft backgrounds.

Ring USM, high-speed CPU, and optimized AF algorithms for fast autofocusing.

Optimized lens coatings ensure exceptional color balance while minimizing ghosting.

Fluorine coating on front and rear lens surfaces reduces smears and fingerprints.

Zoom lock lever locks the zoom position at the wide end for safe transporting.
