Here are the latest about the Canon EOS R7, the white unicorn in the Canon rumors domain.

Rumored since the beginning of the EOS R era, the Canon EOS R7 is said to get announced within a few months, and then gets delayed again. We heard it being in the hand of selected photographers and undergoing field testing, then we heard it will be the next camera Canon is going to announce. But now we are told that it will come not earlier than Q4 2022.

The Canon EOS R7, featuring an APS-C imaging sensor, is a camera Canon will make sooner or later (likely, but we are still a bit skeptical). So why not start a rumor as early as possible. As bad as it can go, sooner or later the rumor will happen to be real. So far it has just been a continuous delaying of the possible announcement date.

Moreover, so far no specifications. Stay tuned for the next rumor. All Canon EOS R7 rumors are listed here.

Will Canon RF lenses soon be more expensive? Some hints have surfaced that this might indeed be the case, at least in Japan.

That’s the rumor reported by asobinet.com. Prices might increased “several thousand yen to tens of thousands of yen” (10,000 Yen are approximately $81) from April 7, 2022. If this price increase is going to happen in Japan, it will likely happen on other markets too.

Does Canon Australia Halt EOS R5 C Sales Even If There Is A 6 Months Waiting Time?

Canon Eos R5 C

A weird rumor surfaced from the interweb of rumor mills. We have a hard time buying it, though.

The rumor states, Canon Australia was ordered by Canon Inc to halt Canon EOS R5 C sales. Apparently, a mail by Canon Australia is making the rounds. The rumor cites “some issues” with the EOS R5 C without specifying them.

Some question arise:

  • Why just Canon Australia?
  • How can you stop sales for a camera that has an official waiting time of currently 6 months? (according to Canon Japan)

We have never heard about issues with the Canon EOS R5 C. Any ideas?

Canon might announce two new and fast Cinema zoom lenses in April 2022.

Latest rumor has it that Canon might have two Cinema zooms in the pipeline. Both lenses are said to feature a T stop of 2.0. One lens might start between 14mm and 20mm and go up between 40mm and 60mm. The other lens might start between 30mm ad 45mm and go up to 80mm-90mm.

Both lenses are designed for a Super 35mm imaging sensor but can be used with a converter.

The lenses could replace the CN 15.5-47mm and CN 30-105mm, and will be available for the EF and PL mounts.

Are Super Telephotos With DO and the EOS R1 Coming?

A new supercharged rumor emerged from the interweb of rumor mills. The EOS R1 and not less than 5 super telephoto lenses for the RF mount.

Let’s first see the lenses. All rumored to have DO (Diffractive Optics):

  • RF 400mm f/3.5 DO IS
  • RF 400mm f/4 DO IS
  • RF 500mm f/4.5 DO IS
  • RF 500mm f/5 DO IS
  • RF 800mm f/9.5 DO IS

All plausible lenses. Why Canon should put these on the market all together is another question (or another rumor). The source mentions prototypes, so likely not all the lenses are meant to hit the shelves.

The source of the rumor also claims that Canon might announce these super telephoto lenses along with the long rumored EOS R1. Maybe just a development announcement. The usual supply chain and similar are issues are also mentioned.

All in all we think there is little beef in this rumor. We already know with good confidence that Canon might release the EOS R1in 2022. As for the lenses, to us it seems a mixed bag of wishful thinking and some lenses that sooner or later will in any case be released. So, not much you can do wrong with this rumor.

Stay tuned.

Canon RF 1200mm f/8L IS Lens Specifications Leaked

Rf 800mm Rf 1200mm

We expect Canon to announce the RF 1200mm f/8L IS on February 24, 2022, along with other gear. The specifications have already leaked.

Here are the specifications as summed up by digicame-info:

  • It maintains almost the same weight as the RF600mm F4 IS USM.
  • Using two large-diameter fluorite, one super ED lens, and one ED lens, excellent resolution and contrast are achieved from the open. The UD lens is placed in the rear group to suppress the increase in chromatic aberration during close-up photography.
  • Extremely lightweight and highly portable. The front group of the optical system is the same as RF600mm F4L.
  • The shortest shooting distance is 4.3m.
  • Image stabilization for 4 steps of effect. Three IS modes. Mode 1 that always corrects when looking through the viewfinder, mode 2 that supports panning, and mode 3 that corrects only when the shutter is released.
  • Adopts SSC (Super Spectra Coating) and ASC (Air Sphere Coating) to minimize ghosts and flares.
  • It supports 1.4x teleconverters and 2x teleconverters, and can extend the focal length to 1680mm F11 and 2400mm F16.
  • The focus ring can be customized, and 3 types of speed can be selected during MF.
  • With two focus presets, you can quickly recall two focus positions.
  • The aperture blades have nine circular apertures to achieve beautiful bokeh.
  • Dust-proof and drip-proof design, fluorine coating on the front lens.

A PDF with the full description of the RF 1200mm f/8L IS also leaked. Here it is:
